Death is one of the hardest things we face in life. Losing someone we love hurts deeply, and it can leave us with so many questions. “Why do people have to die?” “Why can’t we live forever?” The truth is, death is a part of life, and even though it’s painful, it’s something we all have to face. The Bible reminds us in
Ecclesiastes 3:2 that there is "a time to be born and a time to die."
Just like we have a beginning, we also have an end on this earth.
One of the biggest reasons people die is because of sin. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, sin entered the world, and with it came death.
Romans 5:12 explains it this way: "Sin came into the world because of what one man did, and with sin came death. So death spread to all people, because all have sinned."
That might sound scary, but it helps us understand why no one lives forever. The good news is that God didn’t leave us without hope He made a way for us to have life beyond death.
Even though death is real, Jesus came to give us something greater: the promise of eternal life. He said in
John 11:25-26, "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even if they die."
That means if we trust in Jesus, death isn’t the end for us. Our bodies may stop working, but our souls will live on with Him. That’s why Christians don’t have to be afraid of death we know that there is more waiting for us after this life.
Of course, knowing this doesn’t mean losing someone is easy. Grief is real, and it’s okay to feel sad, confused, or even angry. But God promises to be close to us when we’re hurting.
Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is close to those who are sad. He saves those who are hurting."
God understands our pain, and He walks with us through it. He doesn’t expect us to be strong all the time He just wants us to lean on Him.
Jesus Himself experienced death, but He defeated it when He rose again. Because of Him, death doesn’t have the final say.
1 Corinthians 15:55 puts it beautifully: "Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your power to hurt?"
One day, we will be with God forever, in a place where there is no more pain, no more sadness, and no more goodbyes. Until then, we can find peace in knowing that He is always with us, guiding us through every moment of life.
