UNDERSTANDING WHAT THOU READEST?
Acts 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
The scripture above is about Apostle Philip and the Ethiopian court officer who was reading the book of Isaiah. The background of the story has it that the holy spirit told Philip to go to the desert. As divinely arranged by God, he met up with the eunuch. from the look of thing, God had a special plan for the eunuch to be saved and had prepared a man, in the person of Philip to make His plan come to pass. The lesson is that God has a special plan of salvation to everyone and has made provisions for people to be saved.
Heb 3:15 While it is said, today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
Meanwhile, the eunuch did not harden his heart when Philip preached Christ to him. Rather he opened up his heart and accepted Jesus Christ and he was baptized. Anyone who hears the gospels and believe in Jesus Christ as the message is saved just like the Ethiopian eunuch.
Nevertheless, as a believer, how often do you do what the holy spirit ask you to do? The Holy spirit spoke to Philip and he responded immediately and did what he was told to do. The truth is that God cannot do anything on the earth except men accept to partner with him. Philip made himself available to be used by God. Hence, we should make ourselves available to be used of God.
It is the will of God that everyone comes to the knowledge truth which is Jesus Christ. This can only be achieved through evangelism and reaching out to the unreached.
Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

We can only be useful in the hand of God if we allow God to use us and be a witness to other people. However, one cannot preach the right gospel if one is not well taught. Therefore, a man who must witness Christ must be well versed and skillful in dividing the word of truth. This is so fundamental that’s why Paul writing to his son Timothy admonished him to study to show himself approved unto God, a work man that needed not to be ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:5. Philip was skillful in dividing the word of truth. The Bible records that he taught Christ to the eunuch. as a result, he was able to convince him about Christ which made him to dump his former religion and accept Christianity.
Lots of people have access to the bible, and they read it every day but not all of them understands the message of the bible. Some sees the bible as a story book, some as a weapon to fight an enemy, while others use it for anything that make sense to them. This a call to all believers to submit themselves to be trained so they can have the skills and knowledge to explain the scriptures to the understanding of unbelievers in order to win them for Christ.
