Hearing the word of God

In our daily walk with God, it is crucial not only to hear His Word but to truly listen and apply it to our lives. James 1:22 admonishes us, "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." This verse highlights the distinction between hearing and listening. Hearing the Word without acting on it is like looking in a mirror and immediately forgetting your reflection.

Jesus addressed this issue in Matthew 7:26, saying, "But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand." The foundation of our faith must be built on obedience to God's Word, not just passive reception.

Ezekiel 33:31-32 further illustrates this, where God says, "My people come to you... and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain." This shows the danger of merely hearing without a heart transformation.

To truly listen to God's Word means to embrace it, allowing it to shape our thoughts, actions, and lives, leading to a steadfast faith that endures.
