Word Religion which was translated from Greek is threskeia. The threskeia means worshiping. The word religion is the same thing as worship. In other words, religion is actually a way to worship the Almighty God. We all need religion because we need to worship God. If we say we don't need a religion, it is like saying we don't need God because religion is worshiping God. There are some things we need to consider in the word religious like the word Re and Ligare. The word Re means again while the word Ligare means to bind. When we combine it, it is called religion. In a simple definition, religion is to be bound again. It is important to be bound again to the Lord because we have gone astray from the ways of the Lord. Malachi 3:7 The Lord we have gone astray from him even before the days of our fathers.
There is no doubt that we have gone away from God and we have let satan rule over us. We have been doing things our own way and not the way of the Lord. We have deep our hand into sin but the Lord wants us to come back to Him. We need reconciliation with God, we must return unto God for Him to wash away our sins so that we may be Holy and acceptable before Him. Because we have chosen our own way and not the way of God, that is why we are driven far away from God. We must return unto God, that is where the word religion applies. Religion is to create a connection again between God and man.
We must be bound unto God in other to have peaceful and wealthy life on Earth. That's why we need a religion, we need to worship God and return to his ways. Is wrong to say we don't need religion because it is the Lord Jesus who established God and died for the Church. Part of religion is charity and self-sanctification according to James 1:27. The component of true religion is charity and self-sanctification.
