What is the proper way to pray? | The Old Path | MCGI

Scriptures: Phillipians 4:6, James 1:6, Hebrews 11:6

As Christians, we can't do without prayers. Our need for prayers cannot be ignored. We can say prayer to be a means of asking God for what we or anybody cannot do for us. When we pray, we acknowledge the fact that we cannot solve that problem on our own except God intervenes for us.

Phillipians 4:6 gives us a guideline of how a proper prayer should be made to God. It say:

(KJV) Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

In other translations, it says "Be anxious for nothing." We should not let any challenge that we face in this world leave us in a state of anxiety. If we have the understanding that God is bigger than every situation, we would not have any reason to be anxious no matter the challenge that comes our way in life.

Instead of being anxious, we should make prayers and supplications before God. This is the right attitude and approach to challenges that we face. While people of the world are anxious in times of chaos, we should present that chaotic situation before God, knowing that He has the ability of turning around the situation.

We are certain of receiving favour from God when we ask Him for anything in faith. A basic requirement of receiving from God is to ask Him with faith. As much as God is willing to answer our prayers, the prayers will be lacking if faith is not attached to them.

A prayer made outside faith is not pleasing to God; we see this in Hebrews 11:6. Faith is a necessity in the life of a Christian. A prayer made with faith brings the attention of God. When we ask God in faith, it means we believe completely in Him. It means we have no doubt of His ability to end whatever problems we are facing.

James 1:6 gives us an insight into what it means to ask in faith. When we ask in faith, we stand our ground. We refuse to let the things that are playing out in front of our eyes becloud our judgment. We are more interested in what God is saying about that situation than what other people are saying.
