The Image Of God. MCGI TOPIC REVIEW.

When the Bible says that God created man in His Spirit, what does it imply? Is it talking literally or figuratively? We should not forget that the one who is speaking is a spirit. He is a spirit. God is a spirit. The Bible confirms so.

Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

God is a spirit. He does not have physical hands as we have. He does not walk with literal legs as we have. His eyes are not like our physical eyes. His ears are not like our physical ears. So, when we are talking about the image of God, it is not the physical being that the Bible is talking about.

The image of God which the Bible means is what God is like. God is holy and righteous. God is sinless. So, we were created in the image of uprightness. We were created holy and righteous. We were created to be like God in holiness and righteousness.

1 Peter 1:15-16 (KJV) But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

So, the image of God which we possess is not our physical hands. We are like God in righteousness. When we move away from the standard of God's righteousness, we lose the image of God’s righteousness.
