Does God Allow Polygamy?

It was not allowed by God for David or for Solomon. That's why God punished them. God's only prescription for marriage can be found in Genesis 2:22-24;

"The Lord created the woman and “brought her to the man”. “Then the man said, ‘This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man.’ Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

God's plan for Man is monogamy, the union of one man and one woman. God does not allow polygamy.

You can also read these supporting scriptural verses;

Matthew 29:5;, 1 Timothy 3:2,12 and 1 Corinthians 7:2;

Moreover, Biblical figures like Abraham and David are Faith examples, not moral examples. We should emulate their Faith in God not in their marital practices. That God allowed it doesn't mean He prescribed it.

The many wives of Solomon turned his heart away from God.
1 Kings 11:3;

"And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart”

You see it is not allowed but men can choose for themselves because we are given the power to choose to obey, or disobey God.

Deuteronomy 30:19;

"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live"

God prescribes but you decide and upon your decision you will be answerable to God because polygamy, destroys the Christ-exalting picture of one bride and one groom in marriage.

Thank you very much for your continuous support 🙏
