We have to be renewed by the Holy Ghost, by His power and we have to be washed of our sins, we have to be regenerated by God. We of ourselves cannot refrain from evil because we are helpless, the devil and his temptations are powerful, especially to our flesh. It is very necessary to talk about matters of reality. Lust or desires of the flesh are so real. James 1:14;
"But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed."
Our own flesh is one of our greatest enemies, it makes us to do things that are not right. A married man laying with another woman who is not his wife and vice versa. We all have our own lust, the lusts of the flesh and of the eyes. These are worldly and natural things here on earth.
So James understanding himself and the way of all men, that every man is tempted and that's the reason one keeps repeating those bad things. But you are not to be ashamed because everyone is a victim of this.
By our own selves we cannot make corrections in our beings, it is impossible. Jeremiah 10:23;
"O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps."
No matter how much effort you try to exert, man cannot do right by himself. All institutions formed by the entire humanity is not able to correct and make people better except it is an institution formed by God, it would be in vain in correcting human errors. Proverbs 16:9;
"A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps."
It is our heart that plans our ways, our lives, our future, these are all our heart's desires. But our hearts cannot change us, it is only the Lord who can direct our steps.
