RE: Blooming cactus - Notocactus mueller-melchersii

It is amazing that you grew this from seed! I always thought they came from offshoots. The pattern for the thorns is beautiful. I have never understood the draw of cactus, but, you certainly have a great way of presenting them.

Sort:

It is much faster from ofshoot. But there is always more from seed. And of course the flowers can be different.
I agree about the thorns pattern :)

There are more from seeds, but, are the plants as big and healthy when they are full-grown or are they smaller? I know it is a silly question, but, I was trying to figure out the best way.

Yes, those thorns! ❤️

They are the same :) It just takes them longer to reach the same size.
One grown from seed might take 2 or 3 years to reach the size of a 1 year old (or less, depending on cactus), offshoot. Some cacti do not produce many ofshoots though, or almost at all. So the seeds is the only way.

Thank you so much for your expertise!

My pleasure. I am still learning too :)
It is fun to watch them grow both ways.

I think it would be too. Race to the finish and see who wins. Thanks again!
