Are you guys bored yet?
I still have so many cactus booms to show and I am still waiting for at least 10 more to open. It has been a good year. And it is almost what I was aiming for - a lawn of colorful flowers. Slowly getting there :) Pity the blooming season is so short though and most of them will only flower in spring for a very short time.
Chamaelobivia no ID
I did say before that this one is my favourite one. Huge (comparing to the cactus itself) and very pink flower that lasts a few days. Easy to grow and easy to propagate from cuttings. Those started to grow way before it bloomed for the first time, so I could just snap them off and have few plants by now.

I am almost sure it has some fancy name. It looks like one of those hybrids with large flowers. But someone would have to confirm it.
Last year I tried to cross it with my Chamaelobivia Silvestri and both produced seed pods. Of course I sowed both and there are tiny cacti growing. But it will take a while until I see if it worked and I will have different coloured flowers. That would be cool. I don't care about names.
The cactus is very compact with very short spines. I'd say it could be a bit bigger, but I keep it a pretty sunny spot and it gets all the heat possible in the summer. This is when it slows down a bit.
One more bud to go
Last year it bloomed with one flower, this year there are two buds. The second one is taking it's time though.
Below you can see a single flower from last year. It didn't even grow that much since then.
As a bonus a little blooming at the same time bunch:

Congratulations!
Very nice color, and I also have one :-)
Thanks! The flowers on those are amazing :)
I very love photography especially with regard to nature. but looking at the photo that you shared I was so interested because it was taken perfectly.
With blooming cacti? NO :) At least, I can see this way them blooming, will have to wait for mine ... for some years :D
Go get one that blooms fast :P
#KeepOnWaiting
I was struck by your phrase:
But I think you are right, there are times that we don't need to know the name of the place where they took the picture of a beautiful sunset, we just have to admire and enjoy what we have in front of our eyes, that's the beauty of life, you know I really like your pictures.
And I have a question, do you think that if I leave the cactus in direct sun I will kill them? haha, here in Mexico they live in extreme conditions and without our help, so I have several days thinking about that question, I think I will do the test leaving a couple of them in direct sun.
What I mean is that I will not like it more (or less) if I know the full hybrid name. It grow them from flowers and cause they are cool plants.
Of course it helps knowing what they are. But if I don't... oh well :)
Thank you! :))
You can try that. But I would do it gradually. If they are not used to full sun, they will get sunburn. I might not kill them right away, but they will get damaged.
In nature, the small ones usually have some protection from other plants, grasses, some tree or rocks. Their roots are also in a soil, which doesn't heat up so deep. Unlike pots that are heated up by the sun.
I hadn't thought of that and that must be the key, I'm going to put it in a big pot just to experiment haha.
Careful with that too. Big pots stay wet longer = root rot ;)
She's a beauty, the hardware stores over here glue fake flowers on the cacti to trick you into buying them. Then you wait forever and they never actually end up making a real bloom. Probably not arid enough over here.
Thanks!
They do that here too. Either way they are glued or pinned with a needle. Anything to sell...
Cold and dry winter rest is the key to make them bloom :) They need big temperature difference to induce blooming.
My christmas cactus loves it here and always blooms like crazy but my other cacti seem to need more light.
Oh, my!!! Bored? Never! These are absolutely amazing! So many different variety of cactus! Where do you keep them all? The colors are just magnificent!
Thanks so much for sharing!
Sexy flowers! Look as big as a lotus flower!
Oh no... they are not that big. Maybe 4 cm across...
Oh! Your lens did a very good job! The flower looks big and wonderful!
