Two years ago I received a small, single cutting of this cactus. It was the size of a peanut. One little, rootless green ball.
It started to produce roots and begun to grow. That was the first year.
The next spring it was still just one little peanut, but it was bigger and in early summer it surprised me with two little flowers. Later it starter to grow some offshoots.
And this year - 2 years after I got the little thing, it bloomed again, but already looks like a start of a nice little clump with multiple offshoots.
Rebutia Fabrisii var. Aureiflora
It is another rather small cactus that will never be very tall. It will rather grow sideways producing more and more little green heads. It is native to Argentina and grows between rocks. It enjoys quite a bit of sun and not too much water. As any of the cacti that have a thick tap root, they are very prone to rot and it is better to underwater than over water. The root will store enough water and nutrients to help it survive the drought times.
I keep mine in a very sunny spot almost all year round, but keeping in mind that it should not get the winter rain. It also needs the colder winters to induce flowering.
Bonus: an unwanted visitor. I hate Thrips!
The flowers are not very big, but they have this intensive yellow colour. Combining that with light green cactus, it just looks so light and fresh.
The spines on this one are almost harmless. Very soft and shirt. They do create a quite thick protection from the sun though.
Last year it looked like this. One single head, not much bigger than the tip of my finger.
The flower was also smaller and because of the tall pot id didn't open fully.
And still growing in a community pot with other rooting cuttings.
This year it earned it's own pot :)
(The other 2 little cacti also got own post, but they did not bloom this year. Hopefully next spring I see some flowers.)

They look quite big compared to the tiny cactus :D So cute!
Cause the cactus is tiny. It could grow in a box of matches.
It is very cute indeed.
