Hello everyone!
I am new to the community, but that does not impede to share my love for plants, especially cacti.
Cacti are amazing plants as they can adapt to extreme temperatures by developing simple but beautiful structures. When the weather conditions are favorable, these plants give us gifts in the form of flowers, which makes you think how amazing it is that from a living being with thorns, we can see beautiful and delicate flowers. It is a reflection that we could apply to human beings. However, I don't want to digress!
Today, I went to the doctor, and in a store, I happened to find a grafted cactus. It is a rarity since nature does not produce this type of species.
It is a "moon cactus", also known as "Japanese cactus". It is a cactus resulting from a combination between the base or foot of Hylocereus undatus (it is the one that produces the exotic dragon fruit), and in the crown part is composed of Gymnocalycium.
Gymnocalycium is a species of catus that has no chlorophyll, so grafting it on a green cactus rich in this substance is ideal for its growth.
This "moon cactus" is quite a masterpiece of gardening and patience as you need to make clean cuts in both species of cactus and hold them carefully for at least a couple of weeks, so that they are united and can grow as one.
It is a nice specimen that I brought home. Now, I have to follow the seller's advice to take care of it from excessive watering, humidity, as well as from too much sunlight. In a few weeks I will tell you how this nice plant adapted in my home.
