Seeing the Agave flowers we can feel admiration for this plant, say how nice it is and how tall the stalk with the flowers is. I have at home an Aloe Vera plant which at first sight resembles Agave. It grows a tall stalk with flowers too, every year. But Agave has nothing to do with the ways how Aloe Vera brings its offspring. Agave had a different strategy and destiny... actually, it is a bit sad...
While I can enjoy the flowers of my Aloe Vera every year, that would not be the case with Agave. It can be planted in a pot, yes, but its leaves have sharp thorns. I experienced this morning the sharpness of one thorn... my leg got a kiss from it which resulted in a thin blood thread... Well, it was my fault I went that close to them to take a closer photo. Mainly they grow in nature, on plots and by the paths where we walk. In freedom, they need time and space to grow.
When they are ready to bring the flower, to leave descendants behind, they grow that tall stalk. With buds that later bloom.
From those green little buds, many white flowers pop out. Here I collected from the floor some already dried ones.
I took these photos this morning while we were walking some 5 km from the workshop where I left my car for a check-up. It's been a while since I said that I hear something strange while driving, a frequency that I didn't hear before and I wanted to check with the mechanic if it really is something worrisome. We left the car and we walked these 5 km home, talking and seeing these Agave plants. I stopped every so often to take a photo, but in the end, we got home and shortly after I received a call from the mechanic. Everything is fine with the car, now I have to go back and pick up my vehicle, and pay for the check-up because of the noise that I obviously heard just in my head. I'll see these plants one more time, soon, after I finish writing this post.
So, back to the main topic - why it is a bit sad, the way how they reproduce, as I mentioned at the beginning of the post? After they grow this admirable and spectacular, unbelievably tall flower their life ends. The Agave plant dies. A noble death they face.
It is not that just the stalk dries and dies. The whole plant with its leaves dies after its beautiful blooming is finished. Do you see those dead leaves around the green plant? Those ones already closed their life cycle...
What a wonderful and strange life cycle, once they bloom, like when they have children, their life is over, they just come into this world to bloom and expand and then they are gone. It's kind of metaphorical.
Beautiful photographs! I loved the 4th one, it's beautiful.... all of them but that one the most.
Thanks @mipiano ❤️
The cycle of life, how nature dictates here for this plant, and what is the trigger for its destiny. Its blooming can mean different things to others in their own life paths.
Photos - not the easiest plant to take photos of hahaha, it is taller than some trees :D
That's right, and each plant has its own destiny or purpose... just like people. Lovely post!
I see they are tall... and those photos are great!
It’s incredible how they can grow so much, then fulfill the natural cycle of life to leave a new replacement. Nature is wise. Your post is very interesting. Thank you for share your knowledges
You are absolutely right. And look, a few days ago while waiting for one rehearsal I took a photo of a poster that was on the wall:
lo que dijiste... la naturaleza es sabia.
It has happened to me several times - I've been kissed too many times for my liking 😂
In the garden in front of my house, we have several of this plants with prickly thorns. When it's time to clean the garden, I have been pricked by their tips, and it hurts a bit. We chose to cut off their tips so that they don't harm anyone and don't scratch our car.
At my home, when the stall comes out, we cut it off to avoid the plant's death. It's amazing how tall the stall gets and how beautiful it becomes, full of flowers, but ending its life . That's nature.
Thanks to your posts, I'm discovering new communities every day 😁
Oops, you have been kissed too, by thorns like this? The cacti thorns are not nice either 😂
So, it is possible to avoid the plant's death by cutting off the stem?
I am glad my posts can help you with these discoveries. :D
Looking forward to seeing maybe some of your succulent's posts and how you take care of them :)
Too sad it died and isn't being bottled as Tequila or Cocuy.
Many plants have sharp edges to fend off predators and photographers 😂
Those listening skills are on point to be able to get the car to the mechanic by ear.
Haha, yes I know that Agave originated from Mexico and is used for obtaining Tequila 😎
Oh, true, they grow thorns to chase away people like me. As I am not a photographer, maybe I am a predator 😂
The mechanic said everything is fine. I already went for the car, and nobody believes me... + now everyone is mocking me hahaha
Well, it's a weird situation. There's no way around the mechanic thing. However, cars tend to stop making weird sounds once they are with the mechanic. That's a known fact.
Ha, ha, ha, ha. A photography predator. 🤣
😂😂😂 True
Well, true for the behavior of the car once with the mechanic is trying it. 😂
🤣🤣🤣
I am amazed every time I see one of those. They do grow around here and every year some bloom. It's almost like some prehistoric plant with such giant flower stem.
I don't have any either in a pot. Some are so pretty though and smaller than these ones.
Oh, yes, like a prehistoric plant. I can easily imagine some prehistoric creatures by its side, seriously. I am seeing them for years, from a distance, but seems that all these ones that I saw this morning matured this year for their only and ultimate blooming.
Hello dear friend @mipiano good day
I was unaware that Agave plants grew so tall, and had flowers, for years I have seen some plants near my home and I have never seen them bloom and develop so much.
Beautiful photographs, thank you very much for sharing this experience
have a wonderful day
Yes, the plants can grow slowly for years without the stem, but then they release it, once. I am glad you can read about this, maybe next time you see an agave plant blooming and remember this post and their life cycle.
Thank you @jlufer and have a great day you too :)
Now, that's a nice question to ask around.
I am sure that a lot of people will have to think twice before they answer :)
Something like this I had in my mind too while writing this post. ;)
What is a fact is that it is definitely a noble destiny one plant/person/living creature can experience...
Ah yes! I have read about the Gave and flowering after I got my first plant. They are quite easy to take care of and are exotic here. Sorry to hear about your car / or mind 😂.
Maybe check the tires 🛞 for Sykes in them?
Here is my little agave below.
Your little Agave is cute. You can be calm, it would not grow that tall stem and die, when in a pot and of this size.
Hahaha, thanks, all good with the car, so it's my mind 😂😂😂
You got a bloody kiss, not some regular kiss.:P
Is Agave tall, or it's just lower perspective?
It is very tall, not just a perspective thing. You see in some photos the fence or roof as a reference and other trees. The stem of these Agave plants is taller.
Hahaha, definitely not a regular kiss. 😂
Now I noticed it 🤓
I have seen this plant, but I didn't know that they die after they bloom , it's the live , anything last, so all time most be well using because any minute can be the last one .
Yes, every single minute of our lives is important, we don't know which one is the last one 😉
What a great post! There are so many ways to bloom and then die blooming and live on, reborn.
Agave is abundance and love.
Esto está muy bueno, escritora. Solo póngase una bandita.
🙂 3 (posts) Thanks @mipiano 💙😉
Exactly - so many ways to bloom, die and be reborn!! This plant is just one example ;)
Luckily, nada grave y ya no soporto banditas jajaja. Quité y de los puntos esos :D
a radio frequency, perhaps... from Marte 😂
¿Ya quitaste los puntos? ¿O la bandita?
Solo la bandita, los puntos siguen hasta este jueves.
Jajaja, no sé, pero bueno, si los expertos dicen que todo está bien, pues bien.
😂
They make so many babies though. They also make little babies on those flower stalks and eventually that big spike falls over, spreading even more plants around. They also live for many years before they finally bloom
That's true, they make many babies - new plants. There are always several plants together (when I see them in nature, growing by themselves) and for growing this big they need years.
And as Ewkaw said, they resemble some prehistoric plants hahaha
It's like a tall and long Spanish/Mexican broccoli.
Hahahahahahaha
A new kind of broccoli 😂😂😂
Wao this is very unique and different than other plants. I always like to see the natural beauty.
Nature is amazing, isn't it? :)
Agave plants are truly amazing. They can grow to be very tall and their flowers are absolutely stunning. However, it is sad that after they bloom, the entire plant dies. It is a noble death, but it is still sad to see such a beautiful plant come to an end.
Sad but noble, but that is how life goes, it is a natural cycle of it 😇
Wow, this plant is very tall! I didn't know about her, I learned something new through your post, although its reproduction is truly sad ☹️.
