This genus currently has more than 500 known species and many of them are cultivated in much of the world for ornamental purposes. To grow these plants you need the following requirements:

  • They need to be grown in full sun during the less warm seasons of the year. During the summer it is recommended to provide them with partial shade.
  • Water every 7 days to avoid rot and preventing water from stagnating between the leaves.
  • The substrate must be 60% mineral to allow rapid drainage of irrigation water.
  • They require growing in climates with temperatures between 22⁰C-30⁰C for much of the year.
  • Affected by mealybugs, mites and various pathogenic fungi.
  • Reproduction by seeds or by separating offspring.
