Fort Phoenix Sunset and anchor

An Evening visit to Fort Phoenix in Fairhaven MA

Just got in from a morning walk to catch the sunrise was a great way to start the day, havent got the shots off the camera yet, sdo heres some shots from Fort phoenix one evening
We have visited Fort Phoenix a couple of times and have bene lucky to catch wonderful sunsets there, its been a while since we have been there, and will have to check it out again soon

It has a walkway/Hurricane barrier wall that one can walk out as I show in this next shot.

Being a long exposure we have a ghost like person in the shot, they were alive and well its just the effect of a long exposure, if I had gone for an even longer exposure she would have dissapeared completly

Fort Phoenix is a former American Revolutionary War-era fort located at the entrance to the Fairhaven-New Bedford harbor, south of U.S. 6 in Fort Phoenix Park in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. The fort was originally built in 1775 without a name, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Just off the fort, in Buzzards Bay, was the first naval engagement of the American Revolution, the Battle off Fairhaven on 14 May 1775

On 5–6 September 1778, the fort was destroyed by the British when they raided the harbor. A force under Major Israel Fearing drove off the British, both at the fort and when they attempted an attack on the town the next day. The fort was then renamed Fort Fearing.[4] In 1784 it was given the name "Fort Phoenix" after the mythical bird that rose from its own ashes.

This area has a long History with fishing and whaling and its fitting they have this cool old anchor there

How cool that you get to live around all of this awesome history. Being in the midwest we have some cool stuff, but nothing that holds the significance of the stuff on the East coast. What was the thinking for using the long exposure on the first photo? Not questioning it, just trying to learn.

Yeah I love all the history around here and so much more to explore and see

The longer exposure was because it was darker and I kept the iso at 100, which is fine on a tripod but would not have worked hand held
This was actually three shots at dfferent exposure settings so I could get some detail in the foreground without blowing out the sky

Now when there is water in the shot, I often want longer exposure shots and sometimes use Neutral Density filters to enable longer exposures of 20 or more seconds to make the water look so smooth and almost mirror like
That comes ot mind as I was by the water for sunrise this morning, wasnt much of a sunrise for color, and I wish I had the filers with me to try some long exposures
