RE: Honesty: The best Policy?

in ReggaeJAHM3 years ago

Personally, I keep very little cash in my Wallet mostly because I tend to use a Debit Card or Credit Card for purchases. I think that is true for many people now in our expanding Internet World!

However, I do keep a few photos in it that would really upset me if I lost those. Photos can never be replaced, but money can be....

I did find someone's Wallet many years ago and handed to the Supermarket Office where I found it in the car park. I left my Mobile Number and did receive a "Thank You" text from the owner. I was happy enough with just that 😀

I too found a wallet many years ago when I worked at a supermarket, in my mid-twenties. It had a few hundred dollars in it, along with the person's electric bill ( I suspected that was the reason for the cash), and they had mistakenly left it at the register where I worked. Being an American, my understanding of our culture is that it is much more likely someone will keep your wallet instead of return it...we aren't really such an honorable culture in general, I don't think. So, I didn't trust just turning it into my manager. After work I did some "detective" work to figure out how to get in touch with the man, and was able to return it to him. Of course, he was a bit surprised someone would take the time to do so, and grateful as well. It wasn't quite as easy as it would be now with the internet and social medias and such!
I wish honesty and kindness towards others was the normal every day, in every culture.

That act was as honest as they come @freemotherearth. That's up there in the rankings by any standard for sure. Awesome detective work! 😎

Awesome @andy-jahm. Your honesty ranking on returning items you found is up there. The owner must have been elated to get his/her wallet back.

Re: carrying around cash, Japan is still old school as it relates to that. It's surprising that there are still many places here that don't accept cards.
