Dunn's River Falls ( Ocho Rios, Jamaica )
Dunn's River Falls is a famous attraction in the Caribbean located in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The interesting thing about this waterfall is that you can actually climb it and along the journey swim in pools of fresh water from the falls and also get a waterfall massage. ( The falling water beating on those pressure points of your body )
I have never seen a frown at this place, all smiles and and faces full of adventure. When open, 1000's of people pass through the park from all over the world.
The trip up the 180 feet (55 m) falls takes 1-1.5 hours and starts on the beach. That is right, the waterfalls flow right into the sea. There are tour guides to show you the best way to manoeuvre the falls and individuals usually hold hands to avoid falling and being left behind. But as a Jamaican you, I just do my own thing. Everyone is super friendly on this adventure, it is as if the falls washes away all the pressure and pains of life.
The last time I was there I went with my wife. At that time the admission for locals was cheaper than that of foreign nationals. So I told the lady at the entrance "yeah she is from Jamaica, she just Chinese 😅 ( actually Japanese but Chinese works better in Jamaica.) She then asked my wife, "are you from Jamaica" and my wife said "Yeah man" in the best Jamaican accent she could. With a face full of disgust and a frustration she said, "mi cyaah wait till we start check ID, it soon start, unu galang" ( I can't wait until we start checking IDs, it will soon start, you guys go ahead.
Thinking about it now, why did I try to cheat in that simple situation? It wasn't like we couldn't afford it ( though the prices were way different) But there is something in our culture where we want to get the best deal. Better to support the attraction so it can be maintained.
Another cool thing about the surrounding park is there are a lot of restaurants, souvenir shops all scattered within the lush greenery that surrounds the Falls. But what I like the most besides the waterfalls is renting a jet ski ( or sea doo, whichever you call it). There are also boat rides ( some glass bottom) and parasailing. You can always just chill on the beach and take in the blissful scene.
A trip here will take up an entire day, but it is well worth it. Imagine climb these falls with a group of friends then eating some authentic Jerk Chicken.😎

Love Dunns River falls, climbed it many a time. As all the tourists would climb up in a chain hand in hand we would be on all fours passing them and we'd say we were climbing it Smeagle Style ( without the bad combover hair). Have you ever visited YS falls in St Elizabeth? Thats also really nice and not as crowded
Hahaha same here ! No holding hands, I’m passing all of em and chilling in the pools of water looking at them coming up 😂. Yes I’ve actually been to YS once but at a very young age. I’m Jamaican but I really need to explore my own backyard more including other Caribbean islands.

Jamaica has its very particular beauty, its charm, its magic.
Many Venezuelans do not know most of these paradisiacal places. But thank God I have been blessed to have been in many.

Same with Jamaicans , many have just started to explore the island. A lot of the times it’s the time and motivation to go. Now everyone has the time and can’t go anywhere. It’s ironic.

I still have a bit of exploring of Jamaica to do myself. Yeah people need to travel again. It’s getting ridiculous. I give it 2-3 more months.
