Happy holidays hivers and fellow members of @reggaejahm. It’s now one of the most festive times of the year. Many families get together for dinners and or parties.
Growing up in Jamaica 🇯🇲 , one of the things I really enjoyed at Christmas time, was walking around my community to see the different Christmas decorations on houses. Many were “lit” and the smell of Jamaican Christmas cake would fill the air.
Now that I’m in Japan 🇯🇵, I don’t see many houses “dressed” for Christmas but many public spaces are. So now, I enjoy walking around malls, shopping areas and other public spaces to see their decorations. Stay with me as I share with you some interesting photos. 😃
LOCKER BOXES This looks like a big Christmas present with a white ribbon on top. It’s actually a set of lockers where bags or luggage can be stored. If you look closely you’ll notice that there are several doors. Though I was next to it, it took me a while to realize what it really was.
LEGO SANTA CLAUS Look who’s in town! This big Santa was made from legos and took 150 hours to be made. What a great way to get legos sold. I’m so happy I wasn’t with my kids when I saw this. Though cool, it would have given them ideas and I’d have had to find ways to let them know that we didn’t need it and that we certainly wouldn’t have bought the pieces for it. Honestly though, it would have been exciting for them to see it. I felt as excited as a kid. It was quite big and must had required skills and patience in order to be completed. It was very impressive. There were other huge structures made from legos.
POSTBOX This Japan Post postbox is all ready for Christmas. Seeing it made me smile. It was fun dropping my letter in. The decorations added character and created chuckles.
TEA SHOP This tea shop was well decked out for the season. I wasn’t buying tea but had to get a closer look. Quite creative.
BEVERAGES Christmas beverages at the supermarket.
BEARS Big teddy bears at the entrance of a supermarket.
COSTUMES Kids’ costumes at a store.
Christmas trees remain the most popular decorations around town. They vary in sizes and color.

ORNAMENTS While balls are some of the most popular ornaments, it’s always interesting to see other kinds. I found the animal ornaments to be quite different. You can view them above.
Origami and paper art still remains a strong part of Japanese culture. It was good seeing the pieces below. Two of them were displayed by a community centre and one I received from a friend of mine.🥰

Even though we don't decorate we do appreciate the effort and creativity of others in stores and even some streets in the cities.
I see that the Lego company has also made the Lego Santa in Japan. Some the same one in the Netherlands a few weeks ago.
