Hi @ReggaeJahmm and fellow hivers. It’s been a while. The last few weeks have been a bit crazy. There‘s been lots of newness at work and in my family. Huzzy and I have added responsibilities at work and our kids have moved to higher grades in school. Within a month, my older son graduated from elementary school and started going to a junior high school. We are now on four different schedules. We hope for a great year.
April marks the start of the school and financial year in Japan. It’s usually bit of a busy beginning but one thing many people try to do, is enjoy the cherry blossoms (sakura) season. While most Japanese still wear masks due to the corona virus, it was great to see many people having picnics or just walking about to enjoy spring in its beauty.
Picnic Time🌸🌸🌸
There’s something special about having picnics in the view of cherry blossoms. If a windy day, petals can be seen flying in the air and falling beautifully to the ground.
My family went to two picnics. One was with a group of fourteen families and the other was with a group of about ten people. We went on two consecutive days in the hope of enjoying much of the short-lived blossoms. We prepared some food for the first picnic but food was provided at the second. Some of the activities included sakura-paper art using paper plates, games, songs and dance. We had a lovely time. 🥰
Food Time
Before leaving home, we prepared some carrot and cucumber curls, boiled eggs, baked chicken, tuna rice balls and balls of apple. We added some shiso-fried chicken that we had picked up at the supermarket.
We also enjoyed some mochi. Sakura mochi is maybe my favorite. It’s filled with red bean paste, wrapped in a leaf and has a sweet-salty taste.
A few days after attending the picnics, those blossoms were gone.
Recently however, I went to a park with the kids and spotted a different kind of sakura. They made my day as I had thought that the season was totally over.
What a beautiful time of year it is.
What are some of your best experiences around spring time?
Thank you for reading this post. Have a great weekend. 🎶🌸
Hi there !
Love these beautiful photos. It looks so nice out there and certainly a perfect place for a picnic (or two). I'm glad you found some more to enjoy later.
Our Bradford Pear trees (no real pears, just ornamental) bloomed early and disappeared. Next came the redbuds and the dogwoods. I have one white dogwood in my yard. A bloom or two popped out here and there, then we had a windy storm and then a few more blooms popped out.... then another VERY windy storm, so it still has a few blooms on it between the small new leaves, but it never got a chance to be completely covered in it's thick glorious blooms like normal. Oh well.... maybe next year.
I love seeing the pretty way your fun food looks. Perfectly made for picnics.
😃Hi @jacey.boldart. 💕Thank you. Love your play on a "picnic or two". Lol
I remember seeing you post with the Bradford pear trees. I had thought they were sakura. They were beautiful.
It's a pity the dogwood didn't/hasn't gotten the chance to fully bloom. It's like a tease. The wind has a way of taking the blossoms away.
Thanks re the food. It's fun preparing for picnics.
Wow! Sakura season in Japan is something I would love to experience in person too. Maybe one day LOL! It's so great you all could enjoy it and have fun with a picnic too. That's a lot of food there. It really looks like you all had a great time. Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment with us :) Enjoy the weekend!

WOW Junior high school life. I wonder what club he is gonna join?
Those other cherry blossoms are blooming and falling around here now, they don"t get as much attention as the sakura queen though eeh?
Extra responsibilities, I hear yah, same here and the pay stays the same. But jah will pay me the way I see it.
My best experince so far in the spring was a Ohanami BBQ, looking forward to try camping with the fam during Golden week ( fingers crossed ).
All the best in the "New Year".
Camping sounds fun and perfect for this season.
Yeah man. JHS time already. Looks like he's interested in basketball.
The other sakura is just as beautiful. It deserves more attention. This is sakura-discrimination. 🤣🤣Dem need Justis!
Not sure if it'll become a favorite around Spring, but it's Tulip season here in the Netherlands, so feasting my eyes on those at the moment. Definitely enjoying the pictures of Sakura 😍.
And always interesting to see what different people in different cultures bring to picknicks.
I bet the tulips are so beautiful. I love tulips. Happy you're enjoying the sakura photos.
Yes, it's interesting to see foods from different cultures at picnics. 😃
They are! We went to Keukenhof last weekend. There were so many Tulips that my eyes were overwhelmed at a certain time. I was so happy seeing the orchid section, because of the different types of orchids there and got a break of Tulip nation hahaha.
!LOL
😂🤣🤣Oh my! Sounds
Like it was tulip-overload. Now I understand or get a clear picture of how many you saw. The orchids were a good break eh.
I do think you would enjoy a day in Keukenhof though! hehehe
I really think so. Lol😃

The colored rice balls (are they rice balls?) look like they came straight out of an anime. The pictures all look great! Crazy how that view during a picnic is completely free. Also crazy how fast it's all over before they fall down.
😃Thanks re the photos @rarej. The colored balls are a kind of mochi. They’re typical for picnics in spring. The colors are similar to the different stages of the blooming of the cherry blossoms. It’s really crazy how fast the blossoms go. It’s like you really have to “catch” them.
It's probably mad busy in all the parks. !LOL
It was. 😃
