From Saturday night till early Sunday morning could still be considered a Sunday, right? Especially when there's leftovers from the evening before to be enjoyed later that day. Saturday night was a long time coming, as it was an "old" promise to close friends - who've become family - to watch a movie at my place, accompanied by a warm soto ayam (saoto soup) by yours truly.
Instead of saoto soup though, it became a cassava soup by another chef in our close-knit group, who planned to prepare the supper at my place. Because of not being aware of at what time the soup would be ready, I asked another friend to bring snacks, so that we had something to munch on as we were waiting.
The snack provider didn't disappoint - the opposite - because along with the promised cake, that friend brought home-made sushi filled with salmon and another veggie one (I think). It was my first time tasting sushi and I was pleasantly surprised: it was a delightful dance of flavors in my mouth - ergo good balance - and it wasn't slippery or raw.
The cassava soup specialist did all the food preparation at my place and after knowing where I keep my kitchenware - pots, plates, knives, spoons, etcetera - the chef immediately felt at home and eventually didn't ask me where to find what. Onion, garlic, dried bay leaf, stock cubes, pimento, celery, peppers and various meats - chicken and cured beef brisket (smoked fish is optional) - go into the soup. Cassava is of course the staple and coconut milk is also added for a creamy flavor.
The soup was creamy, rich, hearty with just the right amount of kick from the peppers. To "wash" the soup, sushi and snacks down, there was a variety of alcohol: from wine, champagne, whiskey to an unaccounted amount of beer (forgotten bottle of beer on the right of the picture).
We enjoyed the creamy rich red velvet cake and brownies for desert and another friend also brought some chips to balance all out all the sweetness. The next day (Sunday itself) there was enough soup and desert left, that I didn't have to break my head over what to cook for that day. Perks of being the host I would say 😅.
So that's what I sustained myself with that Saturday evening, till Sunday afternoon. Can't wait till the next meetup with friends. What did you have last Sunday? Let me know in the comments below 🤓.
Looks like you had a lovely house party. Is that cheese on the sushi? Looks yummy. 😃
It was yummy and I actually forgot to ask what that sauce was on the sushi, but I don't think it was cheese as my friend was squirting it from a bottle.
Oh and we enjoyed each other's company and had quite some laughs and memories made :D

I can see you had a great time. 😃
I don’t know why my tastebuds haven’t taken on to sushi. I can admire it and imagine that others are enjoying it but can have very few. Maybe I haven’t had it often enough.
So this was a home-made one and I think my friend had kept it simple, which could be why I was able to enjoy it. Maybe I won't like the restaurant version with other varieties.
😃Thanks for the inspiration. I’ll try to have it more often. I should try making some as well.
