Definition of thimble
1 : a pitted cap or cover worn on the finger to push the needle in sewing.
This is a ancient invention(tool) that has stuck with the sewing niche up to this day, in fact it hasn't changed at all. Invaluable for cloth & leatherwork.
All the shown exhibits are from an Ilirian settlements, later Romanized, Christian through Middle Ages until Ottoman rule, later Austro Hungarian. Because of long spanning history it is hard to precisely date the find. However I suspect the better preserved needle to be of Roman origins (maybe even being a medical needle or a modest hair pin) as well as the smaller thimble because of the particular patina their materials develop.
Larger thimble & iron needle are most likely 12 - 17 century.
Brushed & waxed.
Thimble on the left is made of copper. The one on the right is bronze. Needles are bronze & iron.
Very well preserved considering what it is.
