The Fairy Tale of Morocco: Marrakesh. Part 1

Greetings to everyone! Once again I return to my story about the amazing country of Morocco.

Today I would like to talk about the former capital of Morocco, the city of Marrakesh. I don't know how you feel when you hear the name of this city, but I've heard about it very often in my life, and when I finally got there, I just didn't believe myself. Am I really here, in the most legendary city with its oriental bazaars, festivals, pilgrims and scientists?

Marrakech appeared in the 11th century and very soon became the capital of the Berber kingdom. The city, which is so close to Europe, has preserved the flavor of the Middle Ages and its own oriental atmosphere.

It is impossible to visit Marrakech and not see the famous Jemaa el Fna Square. To be honest, the square is not so interesting at the day time, but in the evening.. in the evening it turns into an absolutely fantastic place.

When night falls over the city, Jemaa al-Fna Square is completely transformed. A fantastic performance with acrobats, snake charmers, animal trainers, artists and fortune tellers begins here.

I watched the square from the side, and as it was getting dark, it turned more and more into a fabulous place. It was not a square of a modern city anymore. Unfortunately, it is impossible to convey in words the flavor of this place, but it reminded me of the atmosphere of oriental fairy tales which I enjoyed reading in my childhood.

In a large restaurant on the central square, tourists could find not only delicious dinner with exotic oriental dishes, but also the whole Berber performance was waiting for them. Artists in national costumes sing, dance, and play national instruments for you.

Riders on horseback appear from somewhere, followed by a whole procession of people in suits, they knock on tambourines and move across the square towards us.

The palace on the square is illuminated with lights and immerses you even more into the amazing atmosphere of an arabic fairy tale. Hands are painted with henna, scorpions crawl over people's faces, beggars ask for money, cobras dance - all this is shocking and you fall into a kind of trance.

After such a show, it seems very strange to return to a modern hotel. It's like you're being transported by a time machine to another dimension. But the hotel is also very outstanding.

From the roof of the hotel there is a stunning view of Marrakesh and the high Atlas Mountains.

Marrakesh is all pink, and it is most pleasant to admire the city in the rays of the setting sun. Just look at this pink city. Fantastic, isn't it?

But a sunny noon on the roof of the hotel is also not bad. Especially when there is a charming swimming pool near you. You can swim and watch the life of the city.

After swimming, you can walk through the streets of the city, and the streets can really be very narrow here! It's so picturesque.

You can inhale the enchanting smell of spices or visit the palace of the vizier himself.

However, I will tell you about the palace next time, because it is very difficult to fit all the beauty and splendor of this ancient city into one story.

To be continued..
