From Wind to Sun: Two Packed Days in Montpellier

I took a trip to Montpellier with the girls last year, enjoying a lovely seaside getaway. I booked a train ticket for 11 am and packed light, carrying only a bag with my laptop and essentials. We stayed just one night.

Upon arriving in Montpellier, the weather was awful, terribly windy. I took a taxi from the station as walking would have been difficult. But I could see the sea. The view wasn’t great due to the weather. The beach seemed empty, but I spotted my friends in the distance.

We met up and celebrated our arrival. We jumped into the sea and swimming in the waves was amazing, even as it started raining.

We began thinking about where to leave our things and decided to drop them off at a nearby café. Swimming in the waves was pure joy. The people on the beach were so kind and open to chatting. They even treated us to espresso and hot chocolate.

After our swim, we found a restaurant that allowed us to leave our belongings and take a shower. Out of gratitude for their kindness, we decided to have a glass of wine there. Despite the bad weather, we made the most of the day. We ended it with oysters and wine. I may not fully understand how to eat oysters properly, but I love seafood. A bit of bread with salted butter to spread on top really completes the experience.

🌞 After a while, the sun came out. The beach was vibrant with a wonderful atmosphere. The weather had transformed so much that we were thrilled to see a sunny, blue sky after the windy conditions we swam in. Some people were sunbathing in their clothes and the sea had calmed down significantly. At the restaurant, we were lucky; the waiter treated us to free wine and hot chocolate. We only paid for the food and rested for a bit.

Later we visited a spot near Montpellier. There were yachts and the weather was stunning. We walked towards the hotel with our bags, took some time to relax and enjoyed the sunshine while admiring the yachts. We couldn’t help but talk about renting one next time. Sitting under the sun with the yachts in view was delightful.

A Tesla taxi came to take us to the hotel. My friend, being a tech enthusiast, immediately started examining the details. The screens inside the taxi were impressive. Once at the hotel, the check-in system was a bit tricky, but we eventually found our room. The room was cozy and well-equipped. It even had a microwave, a kitchen and a vacuum cleaner.

After settling in and resting a bit, our second adventure began. We went for a walk. Exploring the city, we discovered so many beautiful sights: broccoli-shaped trees, charming balconies and fascinating buildings. At one point, we found ourselves in a slightly eerie area, but we took the tram back to the center. There, we saw the Triumphal Arch and an aqueduct. The city center had a romantic vibe. People strolling around and groups of young people hanging out together.

We saw a cathedral in the city and started walking towards it. The surroundings were calm and peaceful. There were people sitting at cafés, tourists and a beautiful square. We sat there for a while to rest. While my friends ate ice cream, I preferred to drink something light. Later, we found a café for dinner. I ordered fish & chips, while the others opted for lighter dishes.

After dinner we called a taxi, but the driver got angry, saying we were waiting at the wrong spot. We had plenty of space and we were four slim girls. The driver said, No, I’m not taking all four of you, only three. We replied, What do you mean? The app is set for four people. We couldn’t understand why he refused. In the end, he shut the door in our faces and drove off. Shocked, we waited for another taxi. I had never experienced anything like this before. Finally, we decided to call a Tesla again. We joked, We’re only worthy of Teslas. Our decision was influenced by the previous Toyota’s refusal. Thankfully, we sorted it out and got a taxi. We ended the night wonderfully. This trip to Montpellier and its surroundings was unforgettable.

And so, our evening came to an end. Yes, we were a bit shaken, but overall, everything was amazing. We ended the day with many wonderful memories and prepared for the next day because the adventure was far from over.

The next morning we woke up refreshed and started the day. The weather was perfect. We decided to head to the seaside to sunbathe and swim. Breakfast for me was a delicious waffle and prosecco. I also had a few snacks on the side and the price was quite reasonable.

Afterward we went to the beach. The weather was incredible, but it was crowded. Even the tea had arrived. For lunch, everyone made their own choice. I had a salad, while the other girls had sandwiches and prosecco. We spent several hours under the sun and all ended up bright red.

In the late afternoon, we were tired but happy from all the sun, sea and wind. Despite the slight pain from our sunburns, we had so much fun. These two days felt like weeks of a packed holiday.

For the final evening, this time, we called a Lexus. We said, We’re bored of Teslas. Let’s mix it up a bit. When the Lexus arrived, we all looked like roasted tomatoes and even the driver was astonished by our appearance. During the ride, we laughed and teased each other about our sunburns.

This holiday was an incredible experience for all of us. We loved the beauty of the South of France, the amazing food, the warm-hearted people and the stunning beaches. As we headed back home, we were tired but happy, cherishing these wonderful memories we had created.

Thank you for reading and be sure to visit the South of France.
