As I haven't been in touch for a few days, I thought I'd drop you a line. We are currently spending a few wonderful days on holiday in Bras d'Or Lacke on Cape Breton. Pure nature, paired with a beautiful lake (which is actually an inland sea) and a variety of animals that is unrivalled.
We are located on the southern shore of the Bras d'Or Lacke. The lake is often referred to as an estuary (Latin aestuarium "estuary" or "bay") or bay of the Atlantic, as it is connected to the open sea by two natural channels and therefore has a fjord-like character with slight tides. The name of the lake goes back to the first French settlers and literally means "golden arm". Here is a short film from me showing a few views of the lake.
Our time here is totally relaxed with lazing around, swimming, fishing, BBC and visits from squirrels, deer and bears. While fishing we also saw a bald eagle over our heads and in the bay where we were fishing, a seal got lost less than 30 metres away from us.
As my son would rather swim in the lake than visit an open-air museum with his father, he travelled to Baile nan Gàidheal, also known as Highland Village. And the boy happily splashed around in the lake until the evening and got his feet sunburnt. Here is a short film that gives a brief impression of Baile nan Gàidheal, also known as Highland Village. It is an open-air museum of living history and a centre for Gaelic folklore that illustrates the history, culture and identity of the Gaels of Nova Scotia Cape Breton directly on the Bras d'Or Lacke.
Our next destination from tomorrow is the north-east of Cape Breton, where we will spend the next three days. Update to follow.

Da ich mich schon einige Tage nicht mehr gemeldet habe, wollte ich mich mal kurz melden. Wir verbringen gerade ein paar wunderschöne Urlaubstage in Bras d'Or Lacke auf Cape Breton. Natur pur, gepaart mit einem wunderschönen See (der eigentlich ein Binnenmeer ist) und einer Vielfalt an Tieren, die ihresgleichen sucht.
Wir befinden uns am Südufer der Bras d'Or Lacke. Der See wird oft auch als Ästuar (lateinisch aestuarium „Flussmündung“ oder „Bucht“) oder Bucht des Atlantiks bezeichnet, da er durch zwei natürliche Kanäle mit dem offenen Meer verbunden ist und somit einen fjordähnlichen Charakter mit leichten Gezeiten aufweist. Der Name des Sees geht auf die ersten französischen Siedler zurück und bedeutet wörtlich „goldener Arm“. Hier ein kurzer Film der ein paar Aussichten auf den See zeigt.
Unsere Zeit hier ist total entspannt mit faulenzen, schwimmen, angeln, BBC machen und mit Besuchen von Eichhörnchen, Rehen und Bären. Beim Angeln haben wir auch einen Weißkopfseeadler über unseren Köpfen gesehen und in der Bucht, in der wir geangelt haben, hat sich keine 30 Meter von uns entfernt ein Seehund verirrt.
Da mein Sohn lieber im See baden als mit seinem Vater ein Freilichtmuseum besuchen wollte, fuhr dieser nach Baile nan Gàidheal, auch Highland Village genannt. Und der Junge planschte fröhlich bis zum Abend im See und holte sich einen Sonnenbrand an den Füßen. Hier ein kleiner Film, der einen kurzen Eindruck von Baile nan Gàidheal, auch Highland Village genannt, vermittelt. Es ist ein Freilichtmuseum für lebendige Geschichte und ein Zentrum für gälische Folklore, das die Geschichte, Kultur und Identität der Gaels von Nova Scotia Cape Breton direkt am Bras d'Or Lacke veranschaulicht.
Unser nächstes Ziel ist ab morgen der Nordosten von Cape Breton, wo wir die nächsten drei Tage verbringen werden. Update folgt.
