Braidwood Uniting Church: Braidwood, AUSTRALIA

A cute little Uniting church from around 1860 in the NSW regional town of Braidwood was the venue for a concert recently. I was playing here with another local group, but the area was already on our radar to try and expand our yearly regional concert offerings. Hopefully after hearing a bit of us playing this time, the organisers will be receptive to having us in the coming years!

Anyway, the church itself is quite a nice little place... situated on the edge of the small town of Braidwood. It isn't the main large church, but it is a perfect size for a small concert.

Out the back, you have the modern facilities... toilets, community hall, and kitchens. The church itself is really just the church with nothing else!

And on the inside, the church is essentially a single large room... high ceilings, and quite cold in winter. It seats probably about 75 people at most... but in a close intimate setting, with a decent enough acoustic. I love the little pink castle in the corner at the back!

Meanwhile, the front stage area is a perfect size for a small chamber ensemble. In the end, it was a lovely place to play in, and I would definitely be keen to return back to play again with my own ensemble!

The acoustic was quite lively due to the hard surfaces, but not boomy with a long reverberation time like a larger stone church. Also sort of curious if it would work as a recording venue!

Finding a neat little church for concert looks to be an ideal spot, hope all works out well.

Yes, I think we will be trying to revisit again as our own ensemble!

I've been to many churches like that in my life. Maybe not quite as old as that one though! There is definitely something about them that makes them quite special. What a cool place to play a concert!

Its funny... after living in Europe, where everything is crazy old... it feels like this church, which is old for Australia, just doesn't feel quite as old anymore! But still, it is pretty damn old!

I bet! I got to see a young Australian guitar player last night. He opened for Buddy Guy. He was only 15, but pretty phenomenal.
