AN UNEXPECTED LITTLE TRIP

in TravelFeed4 years ago (edited)

It started with some stuff I had to bring to a friend of mine... and there was another friend there. I mean it was a friend of that friend :) but since I'm inclined to appropriate the friends of my friends and instantly consider them my friends, we soon had an agreement about a little drive. He had to go in some place about 40 kilometers from my hometown, a place where it all started, and I along with a gang of a few other friends was happy to take him there and then continue to ramble around, spending the day on the hot summer road.

This opening photograph was taken in the yard of that first mentioned friend. I know, I know :) with so many nameless friends around, the narrative can get pretty confusing. He has a lot of cool plants around his place, like these succulents ad example. You can also see some, still green, Blackberries on the picture.

We did our first short stop very soon. By the bakery, here in Medulin, my hometown. A man that came before us was buying some stuff there, and his two dogs were waiting near the entrance.

It was a very cute scene, so I had to take a few shots while waiting in the car.

We left that friend, the friend of my first mentioned friend :) in the village near the small town with a very long name - Sveti Petar u Shumi ... which means literally "Saint Peter in the Forest". On this photograph you can see the tower and a little piece of church, a part of the Saint Peter and Paul Abbey, a Benedictine abbey founded in 1130.
The name of this town is unusually long, but is quite appropriate, because that Abbey with Peter in its name is the heart of the town, the most impressive building there, and the place is really surrounded by lush forests.

After that we went some kilometers back, to the town called Svetvinchenat. Another long name with a saint in it, Saint Vincent this time.

This is an amazing little town with great atmosphere. Very picturesque, filled with photogenic details that evoke ancient times.

I did quite a few posts about this place and its history, so I won't talk about this stuff here.
IMG_2872 malo.jpg
I will let the pictures talk :) about colors, light and architecture mostly.
IMG_2868 malo.jpg
It's a beautiful, fairy - tale like, medieval urban layout ...
IMG_2858 malo.jpg
... with an impressive castle in the center.

The birds were jumping around the large lawn in front of the castle.

We spent a few hours here, so I took a nice amount of photographs. Maybe I should change the name of the post into " The little trip to Svetvinchenat" because most of the visuals illustrate this place.

We saw a cute cat on some old wall ...

... and a strange flying machine up in the sky.

There was a lot of quiet, solemn beauty all around ... but after that few hours walk ... we continued our rambling.
IMG_2856 malo.jpg
The next stop was a slightly larger town ...
IMG_2855 malo.jpg
... with a considerably shorter name - Zminj.
IMG_2854 malo.jpg
It was a relatively short stop with a lot of talking & joking, so I didn't take many photographs. Only these three, actually.
The church tower and some remains of the old castle.

Then we drew through Pazin, a bigger town in the center of the peninsula ...
IMG_3385 malo.jpg
... we didn't stop there, so I have only these shots taken while driving.
IMG_3414 malo.jpg
Pazin was the farthest point of the journey, after that we took a long and winding road back home ...
IMG_3415 malo.jpg
... I took a few more shots while driving ... and that's it, I have no more photographs to show, so this post is ready for the end - THE END.
As always in these posts on HIVE, all the photographs are my work.

Very interesting Benedictine church! That town is very old and full of historical buildings and beautiful architecture.

This is a strange trip full of friends of friends, places of saints’ settlement and a lonesome cat! There should be more cats!
