During one of my walks through the charming streets of Berlin-Friedenau, I came across a remarkable statue in front of a nursing home on Bennigsenstraße. The sculpture depicts a robust blacksmith at work, a creation of the metalworking company Paul Thom.
It's somewhat ironic that this powerful symbol of strength and craftsmanship now adorns the entrance of a care facility. One can't help but wonder whether the blacksmith serves as a metaphor for the life achievements of the residents or if it's merely a relic from bygone days that has outlasted the building's change in purpose.
The history of this statue remains hidden, but its presence prompts reflection. Perhaps it reminds us that within the walls of the nursing home reside individuals with equally impressive life stories – former "blacksmiths" of their own destinies.

Streifzüge durch Berlin: Ein unerwarteter Fund in Friedenau
Während eines meiner Spaziergänge durch die charmanten Straßen von Berlin-Friedenau stieß ich auf eine bemerkenswerte Statue vor einem Altersheim in der Bennigsenstraße. Die Skulptur zeigt einen kräftigen Schmied bei der Arbeit, ein Werk der Baumklempnerei Paul Thom.
Es ist schon ein wenig ironisch, dass dieses kraftvolle Symbol von Stärke und Handwerkskunst heute den Eingang eines Pflegeheims ziert. Man fragt sich unwillkürlich, ob der Schmied hier als Metapher für die Lebensleistung der Bewohner dient oder ob er schlichtweg ein Relikt aus vergangenen Zeiten ist, das den Wandel der Nutzung des Gebäudes überdauert hat.
Die Geschichte dieser Statue bleibt im Verborgenen, doch ihre Präsenz regt zum Nachdenken an. Vielleicht erinnert sie uns daran, dass hinter den Mauern des Altersheims Menschen mit ebenso beeindruckenden Lebensgeschichten wohnen – einstige "Schmiede" ihres eigenen Schicksals.
