It depends as also thought like this before the last family trip. I have 3 braded high end suitcases and 5 no name cheapies. Out of those 5 only 2 survived ad had to replace them with 3 more because the outer hard shell had cracked. We know the airport services crew that off loads and loads the planes are not exactly careful so guess this is either bad luck or poor quality.

Well that is contrary to what I just said. I think it would be disastrous if your bag broke while being transported. But on the other hand there is always duct/gaffer tape!
