It is located in the extreme northwest of the province of San Luis, on the western slopes of the Sierra de Comechingones, the natural border with the province of Córdoba. Important tourist center of singular beauty, given its mountainous relief, between small forests and crystalline streams. He was born on January 1, 1797 by order of the Marquis of Sobremonte, in the place where the conquerors had founded the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, located, in turn, in the Tata Inti ("The Paths of the Sun") of the comechingones. It received the name "Villa de Melo" in just gratitude to Viceroy Pedro Melo of Portugal. With the passing of the years its name derived in a phonetic group of the mountainous area, transforming itself into "Merlo". The urban area of the town has a drop of 850 meters above sea level. at 1280 m.a.s.l. in the upper area, which offers you, from any sector of the city, an extraordinary view of the Concarán Valley. It has an excellent microclimate (consecrated as the third best in the world), with an atmosphere free of contamination and negative ionization, added to an average temperature of 20º C, which causes a healthy and very pleasant feeling of well-being.
