When we woke up yesterday and opened the windows, we could feel it was going to be a beautiful day. The morning sun shyly entering the quiet living room, the breeze grazing our skin, the sound of the birds chirping pleasantly from our pine trees.
It felt good to be alive.

So we decided to go for a short trip around the Pyrenees, a mountain range in north-eastern Spain. We had breakfast, got dressed and headed out for a drive with our Carrera 996 4S.
It had been a while since the last time we’d driven this one. Because of the lockdown we couldn’t go to our house in the mountains. However, since Thursday last week we finally are aloud to. So, as soon as we could leave, we did.
We started the route from Oliana and drove towards Cambrils, a small mountain village known for its salt pools. From there, we made our way through small roads that crossed the neighboring hills to arrive to Port del Comte. There are many ski slopes in this area, and normally during winter it is quite risky to drive around the area because of the ice on the roads. However, it’s June and it is quite hot outside, so we could go as fast as we wanted without having to worry about sliding. Let us tell you, that was fuuun!

Because of the 4S front and rear wheel drive, this car feels very safe and adhered to the ground when driving it, which gives you the ability to go faster without compromising (at least not to a certain extent ;) ) your safety. You truly feel grounded to the floor.

After steering around the area for a while, we did a pit stop to observe the beautiful views from a local viewpoint. The best part is that we were able to see a conservation area for eagles and vultures and observe the many birds flying upon us. They are truly majestic.

Next, we headed to La Seu d’Urgell, which is at roughly 40km from Port del Comte. La Seu is the capital of the l’Alt Urgell County, the last Catalan region before entering Andorra.

We also stopped at La Seu because, well, we love cheese. Let us be more concrete. In this town there is one of the best cheese shops, or “formatgeria” in Catalan, in the entire Catalonia (at least in our humble opinion, although we really are cheese lovers so we do know our shops #guilty). The name of the shop is Formatgeria Eugène, and for decades our family has been going there to get ahold of some of the best local cheese. This region is especially popular for its dairy products, so we recommend going for some brands like Castell Ciutat or Formatges l’Oliva. But honestly, if you ask for a selection of cheeses from the region, choosing from different sorts (creamy, goat’s, sheep, cow, cured,...), you’ll be good. They are all superb.

After our little cheese run it was already 12am, so we decided to head home. We’d rate our little trip a 10/10. The route from Cambrils to la Seu d’Urgell is considered one of the most beautiful roads in Spain, and even Europe, so we’d recommend you try it out. We promise it won’t let you down.

What is that car next to the two cyclists? 😄
