Checking out the amazing architecture of the cathedral in Maringá, Brasil

in TravelFeed8 months ago (edited)

I'm not the biggest fan of religion and the way money is spent in most organizations of the sort. Yet, sometimes it's good to let the philosophical judgement slip for a moment and admire what's in front of your eyes.

To build a such a large structure and with an intricate design as can be seen in the photos must have taken endless hours of planning, debate, and even more of actually building it. In that sense, this is more a homage to the architects and builders involved than anything else.

This cathedral is the tallest church building in the Americas, reaching a whooping 124 m in height. It is also the 18th tallest in the world. Source.

I didn't take pictures inside because they were holding a mass ceremony. Maybe there was no problem, I've seen some videos of Christian churches that look like pop concerts and everyone has their phone out haha, but personally I'll hold respect for the people who truly go there seeking God and to strengthen their faith (there's gotta be a few left, right?).

Architect José Augusto Bellucci was inspired by the Soviet Sputnik satellites when he designed the cathedral's modernist, conical shape. The design was idealized by the archbishop Dom Jaime Luiz Coelho. Wikipedia.

Amazing build, right? I don't know much about what happens in there so I won't further any opinions, this was just a moment to appreciate the architecture and share with you an interesting place I ran across my travels ;)
