Re-visiting Hampstead Heath in London

in TravelFeed5 years ago

Known locally as The Heath, it's a public park of 790 acres of woodlands, rambling hills and ponds within London. Located at the Borough of Camden, in north-west London, it is very accessible by tube, buses and rail transport.

A favorite spot for us as it is in Camden, more often we meet-up for a meal then go walking around the Heath. Kenwood House have a cafe for anyone who wants to have coffee or tea.

Having one of the highest points in London, it have one of the best views overlooking Central London. The top of the Shard is very much visible, although a bit far. Personally, standing on top of this hill have a better view to the other side. As one gently descend towards the Parliament Hill, to the left are houses' tops with a church that add a dramatic effect to the view.

Trails abound where to get lost is not a bother, just pick whatever trail and go around, it's very safe.

In the olden times, the park have "lidos" for swimming, though I am not sure on when it was used last. Inhabited by swans and geese showing-off their running skills above the water, benches abound for people to use. Unlike in most parks at the moment where using the benches are not allowed for the social distancing measures.

Although I might be wrong where it's now allowed to use the parks' benches since Monday where modified quarantine was enforced.

It's fun to see a few kids that are out and about with their parents, although the number is not that different compared to these past weeks. Seeing a group of women practicing Tai Chi, they certainly are utilising the Heath as it should be. Another guy was also flying his kite by the hill, people walking their dogs, seeing some joggers, it's a comfort to see as such during a time of pandemic.

For some, this is freedom to enjoy nature and the Heath is one great place to go walking in London.
