I wrote this poem as a 'funny' piece, but it contains some deep reflections on the dichotomy of travelling long term - having some of the best and worst experiences and emotions at the same time. I thought it was also important to highlight others perceptions of people who travel. I feel that everyone sees long term travelers as 'living your best life' but every life has positives, negatives and challenges, to idolise one lifestyle would be wrong.
I have selected three photos I took that reflect how I felt whilst writing this poem.
Ashram in Ilam, Nepal. The slowness and fogginess here was the perfect place for tea, writing and reflection.
Bus from Coimbatoire to Kodaikanal, India. The joy of spotting a monkey through the bus window and capturing the fleeting moment
Sunrise at Poon Hill, Anapurna region, Nepal. The feeling of elation and success when you reach the top of the viewpoint and in time for sun rise, these moments don't happen every day.
A poem about travelling
Travelling is kinda sad,
Most people say hey that's pretty rad,
But no one sees on insta when it gets bad,
Some days you're peaceful as hell,
Others you're mad,
Sometimes meeting monks,
Other times it's just a lad,
Feeling like you're at the pinnacle of living,
Then mourning what you had,
People think you're finding yourself,
But it's just another fad,
Travelling ain't all sad Just a tad
