What I really like about flying is the farsights you have on the background. Especially the sights from the cities directly after takeoff seeing all of the details is really juist something memorable and utter beauty. Also being above the clouds is just really peacefull when the air is calm.
Looking here at the city of Pula brings a lot of good memories from the time being spent there. Also even being able to see the harbour in the background and some of the point and bays that I sailed around is really just a moment to reflect when you are taking off in the sky.
The contours of the shoreline and even seeing all of those little beaches let you dream about anchoring somewhere along the coast. Waking up in the morning looking at the land while you home on water is making these small rocky motions.
The mind can drift off so fast, and when everything is calm it is like looking at paintings scribbled on the bottom.
Going over the Alps while the sun is getting lower
The relief on the bottom is the creator of what happens in the sky if you ask me. I am always very aware of the turbulence in the sky and why this is happening.
Often this is because of high clouds but this can also be formed because of different types of air bumping in to each other. So a shore line has the sea next to it which is usually colder than the land. Then all of a sudden you have land with warmer air above it and those two can bump into each other creating more unstable air.
In the snap above you can just see calm and easy clouds which are nothing special just really cool back drops. With the sun above this looks like a Bob Ross painting if you ask me. "Just paint this nice little cloud over here"
I also really like to watch the map on where you are flying. If you are sitting next to the window usually your GPS will find a signal on where you are without using turning airplane modus off.
Using mountains and lakes as reference to see where you are is also super easy and helpfull.
When mountains are there the warm air tends to bump into the mountains creating an upwards motion into the cooler high altitude air and cools off all of a sudden making bigger clouds.
That is when you know when the air is rocky like in the image here down below. You can see a high cloud above the mountains and it broadens at high altitude. You don't want to fly through those if you have the option because that will be violent air.
But as a passenger...you have nothing to say about the route ofcourse...Handed over to the pilots and the flight routes and that can make it a bit annoying.
What I really don't like...
...Is that while landing you know there are a lot of storms around and you can even see them not too far away from you. Now I am fully aware of that turbulence is not dangerous (although it messes with the mind more than I would like it to do) but getting into lower altitude the wind can bring up issues with the landing process.
Even here in the image below you can see that there is this stormy cloud just above us and that the air is not so stable. Even on the ground I could see the corn fields howling in the wind almost looking like the ocean with waves passing over.
I can tell you that hitting this cloud was not a very nice and steady moment during the landing as there was also a lot of wind going on.
Those are really the moments when I am thinking that heading out by train is also a nice idea versus getting up in the air.
Also knowing that there were more storms coming up around the time of landing didn't really ease the idea of that a go around would make life easier. It would only make it worse and that is why I wanted to be on the ground asap.
I like the idea of understanding the process, but in the other hand....do you know too much about it then to understand what is going on? Isn't it sometimes best to just be oblivious?
See this pitchblack sky in the back? Those were the storms to dodge and not too land in. It was annoying enough already like this and I was really happy to be on the ground again.
But flying above little islands when the sky is nice...? Yeah that was something...
I loved the pictures of the clouds. The take off and landing always feels very magical to me minus the turbulence...hehe.
The tiny clouds to me are the best! Like they are just chilling over there for no good reason. The turbulence is what messes with the mind, even though I can fully comprehend why it is happening. It is the sudden motion that I really hate.
Landing is good for me, but take off....nehhhhh!
Stunning view from up there and very good shots @karinxxl

Thanks a bunch! Love the window seat indeed!
Thanks for the find!
I found the pictures most beautiful, in which the clouds above appear like a separate floor from the ground, as if you could even walk on them. It's LOVELY!
Hehe I get what you mean. As if it is a different floor to walk on but then in the sky :))
Yeah you get it.. it's magical!☁️💚☁️
