Skiing in Gudauri: A Year Later, Back on the Slopes

It’s been a whole year, but here we are again—back in Gudauri, ready to hit the slopes. The excitement is the same, the familiar crisp mountain air fills our lungs, and the breathtaking views of the Caucasus spread before us. But this season, things are a little different.

Less Snow, More Rocks

We knew there had been less snowfall this year, but we didn’t expect the slopes to be quite this rocky. Some of the main trails have patches of exposed stones, making things a bit trickier than usual. Every turn requires more focus—one wrong move, and your skis could meet an unfriendly rock. Still, the thrill of skiing down these mountains is as addictive as ever.

We laugh about it, joking that this year’s challenge isn’t just about technique but about survival. The locals shrug and say, “It's just the weather, next year will be better.” It’s all part of the adventure.

The Same Warm Hospitality

One thing that hasn’t changed is the people. The locals are as warm and welcoming as ever. From the lift operators to the guesthouse owners, everyone greets us with genuine smiles. They recognize us from last year, which makes us feel like we never really left.

After a long day on the slopes, we find ourselves in a cozy family-run restaurant, where the owner pours us generous glasses of home-made wine and chacha—the fiery Georgian brandy that warms you up in seconds. We toast to good snow, good friends, and no broken skis.

Food That Feels Like Home

Gudauri isn’t just about skiing. It’s also about eating well, and Georgia never disappoints. We start with sweet, juicy persimmons—fresh and ripe, their vibrant orange color almost glowing in the sunlight. Then comes the cheese, a staple of Georgian cuisine. Salty, rich, and perfect with fresh bread, it’s impossible to resist.

Between bites, we joke that skiing is really just an excuse to come back for the food. “Burn calories on the slopes, gain them back at dinner,” someone says, and we all laugh.

The Magic of Gudauri

Despite the rocky slopes and the unpredictable weather, there’s something special about this place that keeps bringing us back. Maybe it’s the mountains, maybe it’s the people, or maybe it’s the simple pleasure of sipping wine after a day in the snow.

One thing’s for sure: we’ll be back next year—no matter what the conditions are

That,s all for today.
Stand by

Sincerely yours
