It's past 12:00 midnight, my smartphone rang to remind me about Philippine Airline's SEAT SALE!
I moved closer to Charles, he was awfully sleeping on the floor.
I know he's crazy drunk and asleep but I still tried to ask him...
There is an ongoing seat sale on PAL's website. Can I book now?
Okay!
He answered.
I pulled out his wallet from his pocket. And get the magic card!"
Now, I'm able to book my flight. But I feel dizzy, my head is spinning like I was in the middle of bull ride! I input March 5 - 14 2020 for the travel date, typed my full name in 28 letters, and click the book button! I wish everything is correct. Working in a travel agency taught me that the personal details of our clients should be always in order. Or else... It's big trouble! Simple mistake comes with a price.
Last March 5, 2020, I flew to Bangkok alone. This is my first international travel by myself. It felt so comfortable to sit inside the plane, I was able to put my legs on the vacant seat next to me. There were only a few passengers on board. This was the time before Covid-19 become out of control in the Philippines. There was no travel restriction back then. Everyone can go anywhere they wanted to be. I love riding planes because I can see the clouds up close, like a bird... I feel free!
Upon safely landing to Suvarnabhumi Airport, I tried to recall how the hell would I be able to navigate from the airport to the hotel? Maybe you're just like me that wants to experiment. How about riding a taxi or booking a grab? It's convenient yes! But it would cost a lot of money. I prefer a cheaper and challenging way. I want to try to commute to a foreign country without anyone's help. Google is the key to independence and excellence! LOL.
How to commute from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the heart of Bangkok City?
1.) Find the Airport Train Link.
Suvarnabhumi Airport is a big airport. Take it easy! They have English signboards everywhere and it's simple to follow.
2.) Get off to Phaya Thai Station.
It will take 6 stops before you reach Phaya Thai Station in less than 30 minutes.
3.) Ride a train going to Chit Lom Station.
Phaya Thai to Chit Lom, is only 2 stations away that It will only take 10 minutes.
From Chit Lom station, I walk towards Amarin Plaza, it's the nearest mall from Chit Lom station and Charles's workplace. I had no mobile data or pocket Wifi with me. I need to be a little creative and walk around. Hoping to connect to a Wifi signal. I send a chat for Charles to meet me there. Anyway, his workplace is just nearby. After a few minutes, I saw him from the escalator and I shamelessly called him...

I was so happy to finally see him again. But he needs to go back to work after that because he only took a few minutes break to lead me at the hotel. Amarin mall is just 7mins walk to The Grande Centre Point Hotel, but I have large luggage. He hailed *tuk-tuk*, they both agreed to 150 baht as fare.

It was my first time to ride a tuk-tuk, it resembles the tricycle we have in the Philippines. It has 4 wheels, colorful, and was fast! As we reach The Grande Centre Point hotel. I was so amazed! The room is spacious and beautiful!
I lay down on the sofa to rest. While I wait for Charles to finish his day at work.
At first, it may look daunting to travel by yourself and commute to a country you're unfamiliar with. Thailand may seem dangerous because of what we see on TV. If you are attentive and you do your research about the country, you'll be definitely safe. I recommend commuting to the younger generation of travelers. Use your energy to try the extraordinary experience and do travel stuff on your own.
Growth is waiting at the end of your comfort zone.
