Bergen Norway 1991

in TravelFeed9 days ago

Bryggen, Bergen, Norway. Of all my Euro rail travel in 1991, Norway is the one I want to revisit the most. It was pretty hard to remember my time there. Just a hand full of old unmarked photos to try and jog my memory. I could not have pieced it together without some weird notes in an old diary. I would have taken an over night train from Stockholm to Oslo but then jumped straight on a day train to Bergen, thinking I would checkout Oslo on the way back. It looks like I got a couple of photos of the famous country side from the train between Norway’s two biggest cities. Being winter probably was not the best choice of time to be there but I suppose I was just working with the time I had. All my photos are from Bergen none of Oslo even though I spent two nights in Oslo. My only memory of Oslo was a local metro train ride to an end station that was very close to a ski jump. I must have read something about it in the lonely planet guide and seen people doing the jumping in the winter Olympics. I just wanted to stay warm and dry in the train and see something that we just don’t have where I grew up. I am sure the ticket seller thought I was weird when I wanted a ticket to some where that was closed. I travelled all the way out just to have a look and it was covered in mist and cloud. I think I was even on the same train back that I arrived on, totally empty handed but I suppose sometimes you just have to try. At least the train was warm and dry.

I think you mentioned you'd been to Bergen but I'd completely forgotten and got excited at the thought of it! I know we won't get there on the next trip but maybe on another trip... !LOL

I'd !LUV to get there. So many incredible athletes born, bred and breeding there :P

Meanwhile, how cool is your hand-drawn map?!?!?! I love it so much. So much. Just goes to show that you've been a documentarian for decades already. !INDEED

!INDEED So many great places to see and visit!

Sweden is where I always wanted to go 1st as that's where the 1st love of my life lives,. The nostalgia is real! I even learned how to say some phrases in Swedish! I also have friends in Finland and Norway is right in between. May as well do the whole trip, right?

!INDEED would be great!
