Brighton Foreshore, Queensland, Australia.

About half an hours drive north of Brisbane is the Sandgate-Brighton Foreshore, it is a great spot for a walk or ride on a nice day situated along side Moreton Bay. I have run and done many long cycling trips here because the coastline roads are flat and well looked after.

It is interesting the way they are adding the traditional names to all of the Sign boards  as it sort of makes sense to name it after the Open sheet of water that it is rather than a place in England.

There has been 3 bridges over this stretch of water linking Sandgate to Redcliffe. I remember driving over the second one many times with its bidirectional lanes, which used to change with the peak our traffic. I never liked that middle lane, it just felt like asking for trouble.

You used to be able to look down on the old wooden bridge and see the cyclists and pedestrians using it until it was deemed unsafe and was demolished in 2011, even though it was on the heritage register. I suppose everyone liked it but no one was willing to pay all the money to repair and keep it. The old Hornibrook wooden bridge was the first toll bridge in Queensland build way back in 1935.

What is left of the first bridge looking over Hays Inlet and Bramble Bay with the newer ’Ted Smout Memorial Bridge’ bridges to the right. Ted was Queensland last World War one Veteran who lived in the area.

The water birds seem to like walking here too.
