We had been seeing these nice mountains the distance from our accommodation and I was wondering how hard it would be to get to the top. There must be a great view of the valley and Gloucester township from up there. After visiting the tourist information centre and googling there indeed was a short but steep hike.
Long ago the aboriginal boys were initiated into tribal manhood by making it to the top of the 3 peaks of these Buccan Buccan mountains. Each of the peaks had different Buccan names, Toocal, Weela, Mograni. The early European settlers just called them them all the Bucketts. I suppose it was the start of efficiency and modernization.
I thought this would be a great little side trip but it was to be a little disappointed. The walk started on private land and you just walk along the fence line of a farming property
The Lions club built a nice gate so we could easily find it.
The way up was steep with nice view.
My issue was when we made it to the base line of the rocks we were met with a big sign saying that this was the end of the walk. Anyone that went further would be entering private property and could be prosecuted. Really! walk most of the way up a mountain hoping to get to the top and then being hit with some sort of legal technically. I could easily see a well worn path heading between and up the rocks. There are plenty of photos online of views from the top. The powers that be, sort of did this with Ayers Rock in the Northern Territory too. I got to walk up it in the early 1990s but it has been closed now for ages. Sure I understand there are safety risks but there are safety risks every where even crossing a road or driving a car. Normally I would just continue on but I had read the sign and it felt like the wrong think to do, my car was the only one in the parking space was somebody watching. Unlikely, but I did not need any issues while on holidays.
Even Strava had the heat map to the way to the top, I felt ripped off!
It was pretty warm even with only half a walk done. The cows had the right idea resting in any shade they could find.

I felt ripped off too. !LOL But I'm far too much of a good girl sometimes I think. Especially when were both totally strong and capable enough of climbing that goat track. Oh well. !LUV that it had great views even at the base of the rocks.
