The Bucketts way road just north of Newcastle. I have driven around Australia twice and done many road trips from Queensland into and through New South Wales but this was my first time here. We picked this place as it had a parkrun and had access to Barrington Tops National Park, somewhere we had been keen to check out for a while. In the end the National park was ok but over run with summer holiday tourists. As it is not that far from Newcastle and Sydney. Gloucester on the other hand seemed peaceful and quiet other than the New Years Eve fire works and entertainment.
Only a small population
Funny how somebody has taken the first lettering off. As the Traditional custodians the Kattang people had been in the area for thousands of years.
The town centre was full of mosaics art works. I like how these small country towns pick some sort of theme and then make it a bit of an attraction.
The best platypus sculpture I have ever seen. I have seen the elusive platypus in zoos before but never in the wild
I ran along the Gloucester river each morning it was also part of their parkrun cousre.
Some of the best accommodation we have had was the Great escape lofts at $250 per night it was not cheap but sometimes its is worth paying a little more and getting all the extras. A big spa in our bathroom. plenty of space and the pool had views of the mountain range.
I would happy stay in Gloucester gain.

I really loved the Snakes and Ladders game built into that outdoor, public table. And the mosaic on the wall of the landscape (with the river and the animals) was beautiful!
I would happily return to Gloucester too. My barefoot morning walks around the park were really nourishing =)

Beautiful with a very English name and a very non-England look!
We have a lot of English named towns in South Africa too... For basically similar reasons.
They almost had a flat top mountain range as a back drop too
