Getting there
Travelling to Laos has a reputation of being difficult and expensive because that is exactly what it used to be. There are numerous stories about gruesome 30-hour trips in sleeper buses or plane tickets costing more than 300 US-Dollars for the short 1.5-hour flight from Bangkok.
The situation has however changed dramatically since Air Asia began offering flights from Bangkok that start from 60 US-Dollars for a one way ticket. The new railroad, that will soon connect directly to the Thai rail system, offers another, more climate friendly and even more affordable opportunity to travel to Laos and to Luang Prabang. And, if you are adventurous and not averse to discomfort and all sorts of ridiculousness, there are still sleeper buses connecting all parts of Laos to the world.
