After spending a wonderful week getting to know Rio de Janeiro, I ventured into a small coastal town with a reputation for having beautiful beaches and a lively atmosphere.

This is Búzios, a town that is about three hours east of Rio, in an area known as the Lake District or Costa do Sol.

I thought they were real fishermen, but no, they are very realistic sculptures in Praia da Armaçao (Armaçao Beach)

Búzios is part of the state of Rio de Janeiro and is on a peninsula with about 17 beaches. From being a simple fishing village, jumped to the world stage in the sixties because the famous French actress Brigitte Bardot vacationed there with her Brazilian boyfriend and the paparazzi of the time made it known giving the place notoriety.

In fact, the promenade located near the center is called Orla Bardot and there is even a statue of the artist there.

On the Búzios seafront is Brigitte Bardot, made by the sculptor Christina Motta

The former president of Brazil between 1956 and 1961, Juscelino Kubitschek also has his statue on the Orla Bardot promenade

It is easy to find your way around Búzios, it is not very big. When I got to the stop where the bus dropped me off, I asked where the center was and walked, although my backpack weighed a lot ...

I did not have a reserved room, so I asked for rates in some inns and I stayed in a hostel on Rua das Pedras, which is like the main street of the city, where shops, restaurants and especially bars that put on the party at night.

It can be said that in Rua das Pedras there is a bar on every corner

The main attraction of this place are the beaches, distributed in the three towns of the peninsula, plus that of the continent: Ossos, Manguinhos, Armaçao de Búzios and Rasa. So the three days I spent here were pure relaxation, sea, sun and sand.

This little penguin came lost to these beaches

As I said at the beginning, in Búzios there are about 17 beaches, I did not know all of them but the first two days I was in Praia do Canto, Armaçao, Ossos, Azeda and Azedinha, dos Amores, Joâo Fernandes and Joâo Fernandinho, these last two with very good visibility to observe marine life with a simple diving mask.

The only thing let's say not so positive is that due to its proximity to the city center, there are always many people on these beaches. Perhaps the best time to avoid the crowds is early in the morning because being Búzios famous for long night parties, most people usually go to the beach later.

Dos Amores beach

I wanted to get away from the crowd a bit and on the third day I visited Da Tartaruga and Das Virgens beaches, which are reached by a dirt path. The first wide and with gentle waves and the second small and surrounded by rocks, both very beautiful.

Da Tartaruga (turtle) beach, hopefully you can see the turtles swimming around

My stay in Búzios was the prelude to my tour of other beautiful coastal places in the state of Rio de Janeiro located in what is known as the Costa Verde, which I will talk about in my next publications.
