Ted Drewes - Route 66

in TravelFeed2 years ago (edited)

Ted Drewes

Ted Drewes is a St Louis original.

90 years and counting

Located on historic US Route 66.

The Mother Road

US route 66 was named "the Mother Road" in Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.

Concretes

Ted Drewes is famous for Concretes - frozen custard "It's so thick you can turn it upside down and it won't fall out!"

Front of custard stand

The day we visited, there was a foreign film crew doing an interview with Ted Drewes himself! He looked well over 90 and the staff at the custard stand said he retired several years ago.

Gotta have some

Of course, we had to try some 😋 very rich and creamy.

Menu

Here's the menu. I had a Blue Note - an homage to the local hockey team.

Neon Sign

Here's the vintage neon sign on the road side.

Parking lot

A final look at the custard stand on the way back onto the road.
