Exploring Rugova Canyon, Kosovo: A Family Road Trip Adventure

in TravelFeedlast month

Hi Travel Feed and Hive,  Percy here. This is my first post on travel feed.   I’m only 11 so i tried out this Ai blogger tool.   But it makes a lot of sentences I wouldn’t use so i changed a lot and only left the bits i liked.   Rugova Canyon in Kosovo is a hidden gem for families. We took a road trip there and found stunning views and fun activities. From hiking to wildlife sightings, there’s something for everyone. The autumn colors were breathtaking, making our adventure even more special. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly getaway with beautiful scenery, Rugova Canyon should be on your list.

It’s so beautiful all the red and yellow colors.

The Journey Begins: Road Tripping to Rugova Canyon

We packed up the car and set off for Rugova Canyon. The drive was exciting from the start. The roads wound through beautiful landscapes that changed as we went further into Kosovo. We saw rolling hills, lush forests, and charming villages along the way.

Amari and i were buzzing with energy. We played games in the backseat while and we enjoyed the views out front. As we approached Rugova Canyon, we could feel our excitement grow. Mostly about being free of the car. lol

Once we arrived, it was clear this canyon was special. We parked near our wooden cabin and took a moment to soak it all in.

A Cozy Stay: Our Wooden Cabin Experience

Our cabin was perfect for a family getaway. It sat on the side of a mountain, surrounded by trees and fresh air. Inside, it had all the comforts of home but felt rustic enough to connect us with nature.

Each morning started with me on the porch while looking out at stunning views of the mountains.  I even climbed up on the roof to throw my red airplane off.  Mom wasn’t so happy about that.

At night after dinner, we gathered around a small fire place inside our cabin. At night you could just enjoy the silence of nature or my hear my mom whining about it being cold. 🤣

Hiking Adventures: Nature's Beauty Awaits

Hiking was high on our list of things to do in Rugova Canyon.  On our first day there, we set out early in search of trails that would lead us deeper into this stunning landscape.

As soon as we hit the trails, it became clear why so many people love this area for outdoor activities! The paths were perfect for families wanting an adventure without too much strain.

During one hike, my eyes caught sight of —deer hoof prints!  Amari and i were hoping we may spot a wild deer.

We continued onward until reaching an open area that revealed a log that had been carved out into a trough, a man-made drinking fountain designed specifically for animals. It showed how dedicated locals are about preserving nature here while ensuring wildlife has access to clean water sources during dry spells; very cool!

While exploring further down another path, we came across some unique mushrooms growing right beside rocks alongside fallen leaves—it felt like stepping straight into an enchanted forest.

Overall hiking through Rugova Canyon was a blast, not just because of beautiful scenery but also because moments spent together.

Wildlife Encounters:

As we continued our hike, we were lucky enough to spot some wild horses grazing peacefully on the hillside.   They moved away from us too fast to get a picture.

We also encountered another rare sighting that night a hare, which is a type of rabbit almost extinct in England. Watching these animals frolic around made us appreciate how rich and diverse nature can be here at Rugova Canyon.

Each encounter reminded us how important it is to respect wildlife and their habitats. We left no trace behind on our hikes and made sure not to disturb any animals we saw along the way.

Later on, while driving back to our cabin, something trotted across the road—a fox! We were so stunned  as we watched it disappear into the trees. We also encountered another rare sighting that night a hare, which is a type of rabbit almost extinct in England. Driving through Rugova Canyon offered stunning views at every turn. One highlight was navigating through impressive tunnels carved into rocky cliffs.  As we entered each tunnel we thought it seemed more like a cave than a normal traffic tunnel.

Once out of each tunnel, breathtaking vistas awaited us—the canyon opening up before us revealed towering cliffs rising high above.

One such cliff stood out due to its sheer height We pulled over several times just to take pictures.

These drives weren't just about reaching our destination; they became part of our adventure too.
