My wife and I spent a weekend in San Luis Obispo recently. It was my first time staying overnight in "SLO" and I've only ever driven through it on the highway.
Our Hotel
We stayed at the Embassy Suites Hotel on Madonna Road. The hotel accommodations were excellent. The hotel has a beautiful interior courtyard for large gatherings.
Here is a beautiful sunset view from our balcony. Unfortunately the palm trees block part of the view. Despite that, it was still peaceful to watch the sunset before visiting the Old Town Historic District.
Old Mission Cemetery
While driving around exploring and looking for a coffee shop, we drove past the Old Mission Cemetery. From the road, we saw one of the most unique things I've seen in a cemetery. This pyramid-shaped structure. We didn't go inside the cemetery because it was raining. So I have no idea what this is! Here is a photo from Google Maps.
Old Town Historic District
We visited Old Town Historic district several times during our weekend stay. It's a lovely place to walk around and explore on foot. There are many stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and places to get ice cream.
One night we had dinner at Finney's Crafthouse and Kitchen. We had buffalo cauliflower bites and a bacon cheeseburger. It was delicious.
The next day we had lunch at Piadina inside the beautiful Hotel San Luis Obispo.
The architecture in the alleys and walkways was fascinating. This section has some rusting steel which was interesting.
This is the side of a Williams Sonoma store. The area has a mixture of new and old structures and various styles of architecture. You can see the older-looking building across the street.
This was an interesting sight, a tree wrapped with various fabrics of all types of colors, sizes and textures.
Before leaving town, we stopped at SLO Ranch to get coffee and walk around. It's a nicer newly constructed area that looks nice, I would like to spend more time there if we come back. It has a seating area in the middle and some shops and restaurants.
That's all for our trip report. I recommend stopping in San Luis Obispo if you have time to visit Old Town.
