As I mentioned in my travel posts last year, I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods. I want to discover new places at homeland or abroad as much as possible. Before the pandemic, I traveled abroad every year. However, the pandemic caused millions of people, including me, to change their travel plans for at least 2 years. After the pandemic, it was time for me to start traveling abroad. Last year, I did this by going to Thessaloniki, Greece. My second choice for an abroad vacation this year was Greece again. I will write about Molivos’s Castle and Bazaar in the sixth part of my Lesbos island travel post series.

Geçen seneki seyahat yazılarımda da belirttiğim gibi otel, deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil anlayışını sevmiyorum. Yurtiçinde veya yurtdışında mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Pandemiden önce her yıl yurtdışı seyahatleri yapan biriydim. Fakat, pandemi benim gibi dünyada milyonlarca insanların seyahat planlarını en az 2 yıl değiştirmesine sebep oldu. Pandemiden sonra benim için artık yurtdışı seyahatlerime başlamanın zamanı gelmişti. Geçen sene bunu Yunanistan’ın Selanik şehrine giderek gerçekleştirdim. Bu yılki ikinci yurtdışı seyahat tercihim yine Yunanistan oldu. Lesbos adası gezi yazısı serimin altıncı bölümünde sizlere Molivos Tepesi’nden ve Çarşısı’ndan bahsedeceğim.
After eating Mantamados’s famous yogurt with honey, we continued on our way to the northwest of the island. We arrived in the center of Molivos after about a half-hour drive with the view of the Kaz Mountains on the right. Molivos, also known as Mithymna, is a city built on the slopes of a hill. You can only go to some extend by car. We parked the car and then we started walking upwards Molivos Castle. We walked up the narrow stone-paved streets with houses and shops made of stone and wood, surrounded by flowers and trees. As we walked, we felt like we were in a medieval city. I can say that every house, shop and street here has a view of the sea. After a tiring walk up under the sun, we came to the most beautiful view of Lesbos.
Mantamados’un ünlü ballı yoğurtundan yedikten sonra adanın kuzeybatısına doğru yolumuza devam ettik. Sağ tarafımızda Kaz Dağları manzarasıyla yaklaşık yarım saatlik bir yolculuğun ardından Molivos merkeze varmıştık. Molivos, diğer adıyla Mithymna, bir tepenin eteklerine kurulmuş bir şehirdir. Araçla bir yere kadar gidilebiliyor. Arabayı aşağıda parkettikten sonra Molivos Kalesi’ne doğru yürümeye başladık. Taştan ve tahtadan yapılmış, etrafını çiçeklerin ve ağaçların sardığı evlerin ve dükkanların olduğu, daracık taş döşeli sokaklardan yukarı doğru yürüdük. Yürürken kendimizi sanki bir orta çağ şehrinde hissettik. Buradaki her evin, dükkanın ve sokağın denize manzarası var diyebilirim. Güneşin altında yorucu bir yukarı doğru yürüyüşten sonra Lesbos adasının en güzel manzaralı yerine gelmiştik.
We had a magnificent view of the North Aegean Sea. We were in the very north of the island. We were so close to Turkiye because the opposite shore of Molivos is the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale. Even Turkish mobile operators could receive signals from here. Molivos Castle was right behind us. We didn’t enter the castle so as not to waste time. We started walking back down the hill towards Molivos center on the way we came from. This time we passed through the Molivos Bazaar.
Kuzey Ege Denizi’nin muhteşem manzarası karşımızdaydı. Adanın en kuzeyindeydik. Türkiye’ye o kadar yakındık çünkü Molivos’un karşı kıyısı Çanakkale’nin Ayvacık ilçesi oluyor. Hatta Türk mobil operatörler bile burdan sinyal alabiliyordu. Molivos kalesi tam arkamızdaydı. Zaman kaybetmemek için kaleye girmek istedik. Geldiğimiz yolda geri yokuş aşağı Molivos merkeze doğru yürümeye başladık. Bu kez Molivos’un çarşısının içinden geçtik.
This bazaar reminded me of the ones in the Aegean coastal towns. As you can see, the upper part of the bazaar is covered with ivy and tree branches, which gives you peace and coolness while walking. You can find a wide variety of souvenirs and handmade items made of olive trees in this bazaar. Due to the high number of Turkish tourists, some shopkeepers can speak a little Turkish : ) After leaving this beautiful Aegean bazaar behind, we sat in a cafe in the center of Molivos, had a cold drink and rested, facing this Molivos Castle view.
Bu çarşı bana Ege sahil kasabalarındaki çarşıları anımsattı. Gördüğünüz gibi çarşının üst tarafının sarmaşık ve ağaç dallarıyla kapalı olması, yürürken insana huzur ve serinlik veriyor. Bu çarşıda çok çeşitli hediyelik ve zeytin ağacından yapılmış el yapımı eşyalar bulabilirsiniz. Türk turist ziyaretçi sayısının fazla olması nedeniyle bazı esnaflar çat-pat Türkçe konuşabiliyor : ) Bu güzel Ege çarşısını geride bıraktıktan sonra Molivos merkezde, bu Molivos Kalesi manzarasına karşı bir kafede oturup soğuk bir şeyler içtik ve dinlendik.
