Key Gompa is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located on a hilltop at an altitude of 4166 m(13667 feet) above sea level. Key gompa is near by Spiti River, in the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India.
Kye Gompa is said to be founded by Dromton, a pupil of famous teacher, Atisha, in the 11th century. The walls of the monastery are totally covered with the paintings and murals, an example of the 14th century monastic architecture
Key Gompa dates back to the around 1000AD and is the largest monastery in Spiti Valley. It is the religious training centre of the Lamas and accommodates about 350 monks.
