Expanding the Possibilities of Gamification

For my project, I am exploring the current uses of gamification in education and training. I have been a game enthusiast for years and believe it has value in education. However, much of the focus of the research is on the increased engagement from students and higher performance scores. Both of these are extremely important, but I believe we also need to focus on the improvement in cooperation and also be sure we are addressing the anxiety and disinterest that comes from some students in competitive situations. I'm sharing a TedTalk from Scott

Herbert, who is an award-winning science teacher on the subject. He makes some great points in the TedTalk regarding the engagement factor of gamification.

I am glad that you are going in this direction with this project. It is very exciting! I think that one under-explored or soon-to-be-explored aspect of BlockchainEDU is the inherent possibility for competitive gamification through tokenization. Similarly, the possibility of collaborative, sharing "building together" form of gamification is also inherent to a platform like Hive on the Blockchain.

Thank you! It ties together two of my passions. I'm excited to dig deeper.

Thanks for sharing this with the group! I totally agree that Education is in an engagement crisis. This is why I am trying to come up with ways to make my mathematics class, as well as others, more engaging. I think one way of doing this is to help students be more creative in their mathematics thinking/problem solving. I want to expose my students to problems that are more open-ended, require more creativity and perseverance in the approach to solving, have more connection to their real-life!
