Hello to all the community. Yesterday I was at the Guanabacoa Amphitheater. Just to one side of the center, you can see a large artistic poster in homage to Afro-Cuban culture. On the poster itself, towards the left corner (below) you can see the signature of the artist, whose name is Janet and has as date of creation the year 2023.
Hola a toda la comunidad. Ayer estuve por el Anfiteatro de Guanabacoa. Justo a un costado del centro , se puede ver un gran cartel artístico en homenaje a la cultura afrocubana. En el propio cartel, hacia la esquina izquierda (abajo) se ve la firma de la artista, cuyo nombre es Janet y tiene como fecha de creación el año 2023.
The lady who works on duty at the Amphitheater explained to me that this poster was made during the commemoration of the Afro-Cuban roots in my country, a celebration known as "Wemílere". This is a very well known event in Cuba, practically everybody knows what it is about because it is very well publicized by all means of information. It celebrates the African heritage of the island as a great spectacle. There is music and dance typical of African culture. It is partly thanks to these traditions that we can speak today of what is called Cuban identity.
La señora que trabaja de guardia en el Anfiteatro, me explicó que este cartel se realizó durante la conmemoración a las raíces afrocubanas en mi país, un festejo que se conoce bajo el nombre de "Wemílere". Este es un evento muy sonado en Cuba, prácticamente todo el mundo sabe de qué trata porque le dan mucha divulgación por todas las vías de información. En él se celebra la herencia africana de la Isla como un gran espectáculo. Hay música y danza típicas de la cultura africana. En parte, gracias a estas tradiciones, es que se que se puede hablar hoy en día de lo que se denomina identidad cubana.

In the background of the poster you can see the sea and the sky, with its different shades of blue. As everyone knows, the ocean is the historical witness of the great cruelty with which Africans were transported as slaves, from their lands to their various destinations, something that is not allowed to be forgotten. Both the woman and the sea reflect the internal struggle that still persists in many Afro-descendants in Cuba, who do not detach themselves from the history of their ancestors: battle and death, love and hate, pain and faith.
En el fondo del cartel se puede ver el mar y el cielo, con sus diferentes tonalidades de azul. Como todo el mundo sabe, el océano es el testigo histórico de la gran crueldad con la que fueron transportados los africanos como exclavos, desde sus tierras, hasta sus distintos destinos, algo que no está permitido olvidar. Tanto la mujer, como el mar, reflejan la lucha interna que persiste aún en muchos afrodescendientes en Cuba, que no se desprenden de la historia de sus antepasados: la batalla y la muerte, el amor y el odio, el dolor y la fe.
The poster is a beauty in the eyes of whoever looks at it, and it is something that does not go unnoticed by anyone. The message behind which it was created is evident. The artist even writes it: Wemílere... where the roots speak... It is our memory and legacy as Cubans.
