M50, M50 Art District, Moganshan Road or 50 Moganshan Road all refer to the same place, Shanghai's Contemporary Art area.
Where does that weird name come from? In fact it represents its real address.
I think this is a perfect place to find material for the CCC's Street Art Contest and this is my first time participating in this contest.
Initially, this location was chosen by a local artist because of the cheap rental price in a derelict neighborhood, but today it is an amalgamation of over a hundred art galleries and artists workshops who took possession of the premises.
There are of course plenty known artist in these galleries, but I will rather focus on street works today as there are a variety of artists who use all the space at their disposal to express themselves.
It is really pleasant to walk around the neighborhood and in my opinion it is a must see for anyone who appreciates art a minimum.
As you can see, we walk through an old industrial area where many walls have been covered with various works of art.
No wall is forgotten, even street lights do not escape the artists' brush...
